You could say that Ian Lang and Kickstarter are working hard to make certain that the fan series Red Hood will be around for as long as fans are willing to help out. So far the fan-driven series has had two very impressive seasons and is looking forward to a third coming up in 2020. Thus far the story seems to have revolved heavily around Red Hood, Nightwing, Red Robin, and Robin as they take on a revived Red Hood gang under the control of Black Mask. With Batman having taken a leave of absence so to speak it falls to the Robin’s, former and current, to take on the gang and bring order to Gotham before the criminal element can step in take over. Thus far the series has been well done and very impressive considering the limited budget and the fact that when it comes to the DC universe fans have a few different options when it comes to watching their favorites. In other words a web series would be hard-pressed to keep up their viewership under even the best of circumstances, but so far the program has been hitting its goals and moving forward thanks to those that have enjoyed the choreography and story line of this series.
After speaking briefly with Jacob Piszar CD828 Studios it does sound like the series is attempting a season 2.5 version, going back to events that took place before the Red Hood series as it will show Batman and Robin, Jason Todd as a younger version of Robin, as they take on the Joker and Harley Quinn. From that point you can only imagine how this story is going to go, though a lot of fans will no doubt be giddy with anticipation since if anyone’s been paying attention, Todd’s tutelage under Batman didn’t end well given that he wasn’t the most stable of the Robin’s to ever train under the dark knight. In fact he was probably one of the most unstable heroes to ever stand at Batman’s side, as he has a poor upbringing to start with and in a big way was a borderline criminal already when Batman got to him. But it would seem as though the story might be about to alter in a way since taking on Joker and Harley Quinn seems to indicate that Todd might meet his fated end in another manner, though this remains to be seen. A lot of us know how the story goes in the comics, but at this point it’s easy to assume that a lot of those that have taken control of the story have decided to go in their own direction and create something that we might not fully agree with in terms of canon, but can at least state will be interesting enough to take a look at. After all, the Red Hood is the kind of character that has enough of a troubled past that the particulars can be moved around and shifted a bit in order get the narrative one wants to display.
Season 2.5 could possibly be a way to answer any questions that the fans might have at this point, and could in fact be the creators’ way of giving the people a little more of what they want while seeking to flesh out the story even more along the way. After all, despite Todd not being the favorite Robin of many, many people, he was still the most tragic story to come along in the history Batman in a long time and it did strike a chord with a lot of fans no matter how despised the future Red Hood might have been. In a big way the Red Hood’s story line wasn’t even bound to be possible without the death of Jason Todd since his aggression and his willingness to do what Batman doesn’t is a big reason a lot of people have come to like him. He’s a crime-fighter that’s out for street justice, the kind that doesn’t allow the bad guys to come back and do the same kind of damage that other heroes seem to allow so often. Anyone ever think of that? Batman, Superman, any and all of them usually subdue the enemy, they don’t often kill unless there’s no other choice, for good reason since it teaches a hard but valuable lesson. But when you think that they jail the worst of the worst only to turn around and realize that they’ll find some way to escape, it seems pretty irresponsible. Red Hood’s methods might not be all that nice or even that great of a lesson when it comes to crime, but he’s certainly more effective in his own way.
Take a look at the Red Hood fan series season 2.5, you might be pleasantly surprised at what you see.
