The Rebooted “Tomb Raider” Movie Trailer Has Arrived

It’s quite possible that the Tomb Raider reboot is the Tomb Raider that fans have really deserved for a while. Let alone the fact that Lara Croft has never really waned in her overwhelming popularity among fans, but the idea of watching her start from the beginning seems to have an appeal that many find overwhelmingly fresh and far removed from the overly cocky and domineering nature of the original Tomb Raider movies. This is, more or less, a fresh start for the adventurous young woman that was adapted to screen so many years ago.

Am I saying that Angelina Jolie was no good as Croft? Not really. She was good for the time and brought a definite attitude to Croft that many felt was needed back then. But there was no origin story, no build up to what she’d already become. Fans these days really want to see where their legends and heroes are coming from in order to get a better idea of just who they are and how they became this awesome.

The original Tomb Raider jumped right into the story and didn’t offer much in the way of an explanation as to how Lara came to be. This time around fans will be a given an in depth explanation and a chance to see Lara before she goes off traipsing about the world in search of a secret that if revealed could very well doom the planet. It seems like a lot to put on a young woman’s shoulders but then Lara Croft has always been seen as a rather exceptional young woman.

Alicia Vikander is set to appear as the phenom that became such the rage when Tomb Raider first came out in 2001, with a definite lean towards creating a strong and very capable back story to her life while still focusing heavily on her relationship with her father and the task that he sets down for her as she matures. As I said already that seems like a lot to put on anyone’s shoulders even if the person in question is someone special. Divulging the kind of information that could get a person killed, especially your own child, seems fairly negligent as well as highly suspect. But maybe I don’t know the whole story behind the movie.

In any case, from what you can see in the trailer Lara will be duking it old in the old style with a bow and arrow and her wits a lot of times while at others she might be able to fall back on her superior intelligence and a healthy dose of gunfire just to spice things up a bit.

So far it looks like the film will have a decent to great supporting cast, which will help out a great deal. It doesn’t look like there are a lot of huge names in the film which will inevitably help Vikander to stand out as the star as is needed to push the movie.

Tomb Raider should be an epic thrill ride that the fans have been wanting for so long.
