We’ll forever know him as the funny guy, but we also know that he’s more than his comedy. Adam Sandler has been making us laugh for years now; he’s also made us cringe too many times than we care to. But one thing is for sure; when Sandler picks up his guitar to play a song, there’s almost never any cringing involved. The results are almost always either a smile or a laugh. That’s great for Sandler, and for those of you who have never thought about him as a musician before, here are the top five songs he’s ever written.
The Lonesome Kicker
Being the sports fanatic that he is, Sandler wrote a song about what it’s like to be a kicker and it’s parody at its best. Sandler gives The Lonesome Kicker a little bit of a Springsteen feel, but we can’t help but let a few laughs out, especially when we’re watching the video made for the song. It’s ridiculously hilarious, but at the same time we can’t help but feel sorry for that lonesome kicker he’s dutifully singing about.
Somebody Kill Me
It’s a song about a broken heart, but it doesn’t start out as so. We first heard this song in the movie, The Wedding Singer, and watching Sandler scream his head off was nothing short of fantastic. The angst, the pain, and the shock that comes with the song–they all sum up Sandler’s comic personality. The 80s look contributed greatly to the comedy of it all, but don’t get us wrong. This song is more than just funny; it’s also good.
Red Hooded Sweatshirt
Sandler is not short on parodies, and one of the things he loved making fun of is an unnecessary holiday like Valentine’s Day. Red Hooded Sweatshirt is about a boy’s love for his sweatshirt–something that’s so mundane and innocent and silly, but it’s a reflection on what we put value on whenever it’s Valentines Day. This song is about the simple things about love.
Grow Old With You
We go back again to The Wedding Singer to talk about Sandler when he’s slowed down. He’s had a few other movie songs that are great, but no other song hit the mainstream like Grow Old With You did. It was sweet; the lyrics were just right. The song was also sung in the most perfect moment of the movie; some people might’ve even cried watching it. Regardless, Grow Old With You is a simple love song that just involves a guy and his guitar, as he sings to a girl that he loves.
Chanukah Song Part 4
If there was a song that Sandler would be known for, it’ll be the Chanukah Song Part 4. No one can poke fun of his own culture like Sandler can, and this song is his best and most historic one yet. Even if you didn’t know the song, you would know at least two counts of the melody. Chanukah Part 4 is definitely Sandler at his musical best.
