The Most Quotable Characters On TV

new girl8

It can be either one of the best or worst things to have happen to someone–getting something stuck in your head. While a Taylor Swift song might be on the annoying side, when it happens to be something memorable from a TV show, that makes it all the better. Since I’m a writer and throw respect out to those who happen to be wittier, and more sarcastic or funny than me, I’m giving you a few lines that a few have composed for certain TV roles–with these being the most quotable characters of them all.

5. Tamara – Awkward

The only reason why this snarky redhead even makes our list is because she honestly reminds us of every single girl we ever grew up with. A bit too blunt–yet charming in her own way–Tamara might say things that come off as a bit rude, but are at least meant with good intentions–OK, not all the time, but she does make us laugh because of them.

Favorite Quote: “Sometimes my mouth keeps moving before I can even think about what’s coming out of it.”

4. Barney Stinson – How I Met Your Mother

He may be that obnoxious bro who tries way too hard to go home with every single girl in the place–while also offering bogus advice to his buddies and bragging about all of his encounters–but there’s just something so endearing about Barney Stinson. As a guy, it’s the fact that he does everything above. But it’s his confident, cool and irreverent charm that makes the ladies love him–on top of his wit, which really lands him the girls.

Favorite Quote: “It’s gonna be legend-…wait for it…and I hope you’re not lactose intolerant, because the second half of that words is DAIRY!”

3. Peter Griffin – Family Guy

In all honesty, we could have added nearly any single character from the TV show Family Guy onto this list and still been able to sleep at night with our decision. We chose to go with the root of the family tree though, Peter Griffin, whose ridiculous plots, sayings and ideas have helped make this animated sitcom one of the best ever. Honestly, this guy is a mix between everyone’s dad and the village idiot–and we love him for it.

Favorite Quote: “I had such a crush on her. Until I met you Lois. You’re my silver medal.”

2. Phil Dunphy – Modern Family

We’ve said it before and we’ll continue to say it again–even if you tell us to stop–Modern Family is the best comedy on television. And while there are a number of different reasons why this begs true, one very big one is the hilariousness of the charismatic, doesn’t know any better, Phil Dunphy. If looking for the definition of the word ‘goofy’ in the dictionary, a photo of Phil could undoubtedly be the description–because he comes up with spot-on, witty lines that leave viewers asking both, “Why?” and “What?”

Favorite Quote: “Note to Claire, if you want intense family drama, rent Spy Kids.”

1. Schmidt – New Girl

As a somewhat jerk of a guy, there might not be someone on TV who we relate with more than Schmidt. As a self-proclaimed ladies man, he doesn’t just come across as the most awkward, trying-way-too-hard kind of guy, but then also as someone who denies it. Whether putting his money in the “jar” or trying to swoon some girl into liking him, he offers nothing but classic one-liners.

Favorite Quote: “Schmidt happens.”
