Prince Naveen is one of the lead characters from the 2009 Disney animation ‘The Princess and the Frog‘. He is the eldest Prince form the Kingdom of Maldonia and it is he who was transformed into a frog by a voodoo witch doctor and who tries to win the heart of the princess. 1. He is Based on a Character form ‘The Frog Prince’

The film is based on a fairy tale called ‘The Frog Prince’ and Prince Naveen is loosely based on a character form this tale. However, in the fairy tale, his character does not have a name and little is known of his background. Therefore, the character was developed significantly for the film.

2. He Was Voiced by Bruno Campos

In the film, the voice of Prince Naveen was provided by Bruno Campos, who is a Brazilian-born American actor. Other than voicing Prince Naveen, he is known for playing Quentin Costa in the television series Nip/Tuck.

3. He Has a Brother

Prince Naveen is the eldest of two sons born to the King and Queen on Maldonia. His younger brother is called Prince Ralphie. Naveen becomes separated from both his parents and his brother when he is transformed into a frog.

4. He Was Disinherited from the Royal Family

Prince Naveen was never close to his parents and the servants would read to him as a child because his mother did not have the time. During his teens and early adulthood, Prince Naveen enjoyed a party lifestyle and became very laziness. A combination of the laziness and the partying led to his parents disinheriting him from the royal family.

5. He Almost Married Charlotte La Bouff

Prince Naveen was advised by Laurence after his disinheritance from the royal family that he would have to either marry a rich young woman or get a job and become self-sufficient. His lazy nature meant that the latter was not an option so he travelled to New Orleans with the intention of marrying a wealthy young woman called Charlotte La Bouff.

6. He is Very Vain

At various points throughout the film, Prince Naveen’s vanity is evident. He constantly refers to his looks and how he finds it easy to attract women. He also boasts that he has dated thousands of women.

7. His Main Song is ‘When We’re Human’

The main song featuring Prince Naveen from ‘The Princess and the Frog’ is ‘When We’re Human’. The song is performed by Prince Naveen, Princess Tiana, and Louis. It is sung while the three are transformed into frogs and are sailing down the river and is about what they want to do when they are transformed back to humans. The song was composed by Randy Newman.

8. He Was Animated by Randy Haydock

The supervising animator that created this character was Randy Haydock. He was also the animator who created Simba from ‘The Lion King’ and Pocahontas’. In human form, Haydock created Prince Naveen as a strong, lean, and handsome young man. In his frog form, the animator tried to reflect the same physical traits.

9. His Clothes Are Significant

The attire worn by Prince Naveen in the film is significant to the time and his status. At the beginning, he is wearing a white shirt, a dark cream vest, and a reddish ascot. These was typical dress in New Orleans during the 1920s. Towards the end of the film, he is seen in formal attire that was symbolic of his princely status. He wears his green formal attire complete with cape to accompany Princess Tiana in her official princess gown.

10. Prince Naveen Has a Special Ability

After the success of the animated movie, a chapter book called ‘The Stolen Jewel’ was released. This book covers events that occur after the end of the film. In this book, it is revealed that both Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen have a special ability that they have kept a secret. They both have the ability to talk to animals. They retained this power from the time when they were both frogs and can still talk to animals despite both being transformed back to their human form.
