In terms of telling about deleted scenes from The Last Jedi there wasn’t much given that could make any fan truly excited for something they haven’t seen yet that might not be likely to see until TLJ comes out on DVD. In other words the show is great in the fact that it gives out a great deal of information about the franchise and what’s going on, but aside from that the previews of the deleted scenes, that people tend to love more often than not, wasn’t much more than the discussion over the fact that the novelization will show more depth to the story than the movie did.
This really shouldn’t be a big surprise.
Books, whether they’re written before or after, or even during the movie, are usually better than the movie for one main reason. You can put more description into a book than you can into a movie, by far. The idea that a movie could ever be as descriptive or as in-depth as a book is hard to fathom. It’s happened, but it’s rare. The book form of a film will almost always carry more within the pages than can be described in the movie. If a movie was to be true to the book in every way some of our favorite movies would be extremely different, and some might not have become the blockbusters that they were known as.
Any deleted scenes from TLJ may or may not assuage the many people that have been so vocal about the movie since it’s release. It made its way out of theaters faster than many I’ve seen as late since it came in just this past month and is already gone from many screens already. The initial rush and those weekends following haven’t been too unkind but the blowback from the fans has been nothing short of withering, much as it was for The Empire Strikes Back. It almost makes you think that there was a plan within the original trilogy, and perhaps this one, that would require fans to be suitably hacked off at how the middle movie in the trilogy went, if only to get them good and mad before the the third one hit. Those stating that they won’t even watch the third movie might be swayed by deleted scenes or they might go just to see if the franchise can ‘redeem’ itself in their eyes. Listen to the crickets for a moment as Disney worries over the fans that might not come back.
In all likelihood the deleted scenes wouldn’t make people come back or keep themselves from seeing any further Star Wars movies in the future. They’re going to go likely because they want to see a good movie. If it doesn’t hold up to their personal standards then people will bash a movie relentlessly. But if it’s at least good to okay they might not say anything other than the occasional comment of what they would have rather seen happen. This is how it is for any movie that’s come from a novel, not just Star Wars.
