The Power Rangers movie just got a little bit more exciting. Bryan Cranston, known for his Emmy winning role as Walter White on the AMC drama Breaking Bad, has joined the cast of the film as Zordon. Power Rangers’ fans know that Zordon is the wise galactic being that aids the young super heroes in their quest to save the world.
This exciting casting news comes several months after it was announced that The Hunger Games’ Elizabeth Banks would be part of the movie, based on the 1993 children’s series, as the evil Rita Repulsa. The sorceress had a long standing battle with Zordon which resulted in her being sent into space for thousands of years and him being trapped in a time warp.
Cranston, who also played matriarch Hal on FOX’s Malcolm in the Middle, tweeted the morphinominal news earlier today. He wrote, “Excited to play #Zordon in the #PowerRangersMovie!” The actor also hinted that the character of Billy Cranston, played by David Yost on the series, was named after him. How cool is that?!
This is not Cranston’s first time working with the Power Rangers’ franchise. He lent his voice to villains Twin Man and Snizzard during the first season of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers all the way back in 1993. Cranston has other voice work on his resume as well including Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie.
The new Power Rangers film will follow the adventures of Jason (Dacre Montgomery), Kimberly (Naomi Scott), Zack (Ludi Lin), Billy (RJ Cyler) and Trini (Becky G) who must save the world while still trying to make it to class at Angel Grove High. It has not been announced if the original cast will be making an appearance in the film that will hit theaters on March 24, 2017.
