Peter Jackson is Back with “Mortal Engines” Teaser Trailer

Peter Jackson is making his way back into the limelight with the thrilling film titled Mortal Engines, and it looks like an absolute nightmare rolling, in a good way. I do hope that you’re ready to see something akin to Mad Max on a serious case of ‘roid rage, because that is more or less what Mortal Engines is. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, because that’s more fun, this action-thriller is all about giant, rolling machines called traction towns/cities that roam the wasted remains of the earth look for resources and seeking to take over whatever they can from others. London is one of the big bads it would seem and is also one of the toughest around.

However, as the book states, with the MEDUSA cannon, a weapon of such mass destruction that it would seemingly make London a dominant force against anyone, the traction city is primed to become the biggest threat on wheels. After taking out a larger and stronger city London is bound for an Anti-traction target, meaning a city that does not move due to the beliefs of its people that remaining stationary is the way to live. So far this is what I’ve gotten from the movie and from reading the synopsis of the book, but it sounds fairly exciting and I personally would like to see more.

Yes, this is taking off of ideas that have already come along, just as any story would, but this is something that brings together the elements in a way that is incredibly exciting and new enough that it doesn’t feel like something that’s been rehashed a hundred times or more within the last few decades. Mortal Engines might not be a smash hit but it could be a film that will open eyes and make people pay attention to something other than the latest movie coming out that’s a part of another series or a continuation or a reboot or anything that’s been done before. It could be new, and that’s a big part of what makes it exciting. The story itself is intriguing and bears watching as we’re given more and more of it, but experience with new movies that look interesting is of course a killer when it comes to excitement.

The reason I say this is that not only do new innovations run the risk of being battered and hammered into submission by old and faded ideas that still have power, but also because in coming forth with such a strong set of visuals in the first place it could be a mistake. Giving too much too quickly is usually a way to turn fans off to a movie before it’s even been released. Personally I hope that whatever trailers come after this don’t reveal too much more, or go for the less action-packed parts that could still draw people in. Otherwise movies seal their own fate when they give so much away without making people wait for it.

It looks interesting as of now, let’s just hope they keep it that way.
