Another coronation is coming to The Crown as Claire Foy is handing over the reins to a new Queen. Olivia Colman will play the role of Queen Elizabeth in the third and fourth season of The Crown. There’s no official order yet for the upcoming seasons but it is expected to continue.
Colman is known her roles in television shows like Broadchurch, Fleabag, and The Night Manager (where she won a Golden Globe and earned an Emmy nomination). She has also appeared in movies like Hot Fuzz, Hyde Park on Hudson (in which she played Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother), The Lobster, and the upcoming Murder on the Orient Express.
Foy played the role of Queen Elizabeth during the first and second season. She won a Golden Globe and SAG Award for the first season and earned an Emmy nomination. The second season has finished production last spring.
The Crown, created by Peter Morgan, tells the inside story of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign from ascending to the throne at the age of 25 after her father King George VI’s sudden death up to the modern era. Morgan previously said that he intended to replace key cast members in later seasons, to better portray the characters as they aged.
The second season of The Crown is set to premiere this coming December 8 on Netflix.
