NYC Subway Cards are Paying Tribute to David Bowie

David Bowie stole the hearts of a loving fan base with his music and unique onstage performances. The late actor passed away in 2016, but his music legacy lives on. New York City is honoring his memory with a subway card that features the famed musician. This is in addition to the Davidd Bowie Is exhibition that is offered at the Brooklyn Museum.

A fitting tribute to one of their own

Bowie lived in SoHo and enjoyed life as a New Yorker for a long period of time. He resided just a few short blocks away from Broadway-Lafayette station. This is where you can purchase the cards that pay homage to the legendary star. There are five different designs available with Bowie as the focus on the otherwise plain subway cards. They were created by @spotify, branded as David Bowie MetroCards. So far, 250,000 have been printed. The images were taken from the David Bowie exhibit that is on display at the Brooklyn Museum. You can find a random selection of the cards at MetroCard vending machines and at the station booths. The special subway cards show that the city doesn’t forget its own.

Exhibition scheduled in Brooklyn

If you’re in the area, you’ll find a huge mural that proudly advertises the “David Bowie Is” exhibition which is underway at the Brooklyn Museum. The exhibit has been around the world and Brooklyn is just one of its many stops. Advertisements are visible at the Broadway-Lafayette subway station as well. This ties the two great efforts being made by the city of New York to pay homage to the “White Duke.” In addition to the designer Metrocards, murals and posters of Bowie are also displayed at the station, to advertise the exhibit at the museum. You can see the exhibition until July 15, 2018 at the Museum before it’s on the road again.

Affordable collectibles

We’re told that the Bowie Metrocards are going for a price of $6.50 each and feature a two ride minimum. With five different designs available, the cards are an inexpensive collector’s item and you can gather up the entire set for around $37.50.
