Lots of people don’t like to let go of their favorite sitcoms. When a show finally ends its run some of the actors tend to go on to greater fame while others just tend to, well, go. In the case of Malcolm in the Middle all but one of the stars kind of just fizzled out for the most part. When asked if they’d like to do a reunion show however a few of them were actually very receptive and thought it would be a good idea. It’s a little hard to believe but Malcolm in the Middle wrapped up about 12 years ago, going out with a finale that was kind of fitting for such a show. Let’s recap and see what happened.
- Malcolm went off to college, Harvard supposedly, where he was janitor and just starting out on the path that his parents had seemingly laid out for him.
- Reese had become the janitor of his old school and moved in with Craig.
- Francis had finally found a job he loved despite the banality of it and was still married to Piyama.
- Dewey and Jamie were living up to the legacy of their older brothers by causing as much trouble as possible.
- Lois and Hal, despite having raised five boys, were shocked to find that Lois was pregnant again.
- Ida was, well, just Ida, mean and cantankerous as always.
Now that twelve years has passed however would a reunion show be possible? The actors are all still with us thankfully, though only Bryan Cranston has really showed any promise outside of the show. The others had limited success, such as the Sons of Tuscon which was kind of a ripoff of Malcolm in the Middle. But how would reunion show go? Let’s take a stab at it.
Malcolm would most likely be on his way to his first term as governor of a mid-sized state as his mother predicted. Having had his heart broken so many times he would have finally realized that being the smartest person in the room wasn’t the most important thing anymore and he would have lightened up and started to enjoy life. Oh yeah, and he’d be a Harvard graduate with as many different honors and awards as one could possibly earn.
Reese would still be a janitor and possibly still be rooming with Craig since it’s obvious his social development doesn’t allow him to really mingle with a lot of people in a positive manner. Or it’s possible he would have found his drive as a chef and allowed his competitive nature to help him excel in the kitchen. It would take a small miracle however to get him to act like a decent human being, so maybe the right girl that could put him in his place might eventually come along.
Dewey would be living the life of luxury thanks to his musical talent and likely only speaking to his family every so often just to stay in contact. It seems no matter how much these people get on each other’s nerves they still can’t deny the bond that keeps them together. Jamie would be out of high school and onto college, maybe. If he follows in the footsteps of his brothers there are a few different directions he could go.
Francis and Piyama would still be together and Francis might have even made manager or supervisor at his job by this point. The predictable life seems to suit Francis well so it’s easy to assume that he and Piyama would be well taken care of and even have a kid or two at this point. Maybe that would mend things between Francis and his mom.
Hal and Lois, sigh. I would like to think that after their 6th kid that Lois would finally put her foot down and make Hal get a vasectomy. Despite his vehement protests Lois can get him to do pretty much anything when she wants.
Ida would, well, um, let’s assume Ida would be a bitter old woman up until the end, and be gone by the time this reunion ever happened.
I’m sure the family would prefer it that way.
