I wonder if New Zealand is hurting for police officers so much that they need to jazz up their recruitment videos to this level. If so, I wouldn’t think that they’d have trouble with people wanting to join up quickly with the promise of being able to learn how to do some of those sick moves that they’re pulling off throughout the video. I mean who wouldn’t want to learn how to do Parkour while just running the down the street for no reason? Because a flip in the air without a reason for doing it is just too cool, and dancing with the neighborhood kids is something a beat cop would definitely find a use for.
No seriously though it is a funny and entertaining video and there is a cool message to it. They’re not the average beat cops it seems to be saying and they do tend to offer a lot of opportunities for employment through the police force. Watching the outtakes to see how many times they had to do certain scenes was amusing, and I’m sure it took them a while to get it all right. But at the very least it seems to make one think that they care about their police force and getting people to join up. It’s not really a bait and switch since whatever a person puts into the police force is what they’re going to get out of it.
What this video seems to say is that the police force in New Zealand is dedicated to their community and are working hard to make sure everyone is kept safe, secure, and able to enjoy their everyday lives. That’d be nice if the police in every country cared this much to say such things, but I suppose you could say that they do in their own way. It would seem in some countries that the police force are either overworked, manned by those that shouldn’t be carrying a gun, or are otherwise not entirely qualified for the job.
That doesn’t seem to be the problem in New Zealand if this video can be believed. In fact it looks like this might be the kind of work that someone would want to get into. Of course like any video having to do with law enforcement they tend to give you the upside of what it means to work on the force and not bother with the other matters that might come up, or the training you’ll have to go through in order to wear that uniform with pride. For a lot of folks it would be worth it anyway just to say that they’re doing something worthwhile, and they’d be right.
But let’s face facts, the life of a cop isn’t for everybody. Some people can’t seem to do it because they have severe issues with authority, while others don’t want the intense responsibility that comes with it. And then there are those that just shouldn’t be trusted with a weapon of any kind anyway.
