5. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder
Based on the bestselling novel by Holly Jackson, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is a 2024 TV series that promises to unravel the tangled threads of a decades-old mystery. Led by rising star Emma Myers (Wednesday), the show follows Pip, a high school student who is consumed by the infamous murder of Andie Bell, whose boyfriend Sal Singh brutally killed her and then took his own life. Five years have passed since the tragedy shook their small town, but Pip can’t help but feel that there’s more to the story than the one that was publicly presented.
As she digs deeper into the events surrounding Andie’s death, Pip becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth, convinced that justice was not served. With its dark and twisty plot, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder promises to be a thrilling and addictive ride that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats as Pip navigates the treacherous world of high school politics and hidden secrets. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder will land on Netflix on August 1, 2024.
4. Incoming
Incoming is a star-studded comedy movie coming to Netflix on August 23, 2024. According to the official Netflix website, Incoming is the story of one night in the life of a group of high school freshmen, the party they crash, and the chaos that ensues. The film is written and directed by Dave Chernin and John Chernin whose previous writing credits include The Mick, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Incoming will serve as their first foray into cinema. The movie is inspired by a wild high school party they attended in their teenage years. Rising star Mason Thames (The Black Phone) leads the cast as Benj, a free-spirited teen who is determined to take his friends to the best party ever. Incoming boasts an impressive supporting cast including the likes of Kaitlin Olson, Bobby Cannavale, and Scott MacArthur.
3. The Union
Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry are both no strangers to starring in Netflix originals. On August 16, 2024, the Hollywood titans will team up for the action comedy movie, The Union. The film follows Mike (Wahlberg), a down-to-earth construction worker from Jersey who is thrust into a world he has never known when he crosses paths with his high school sweetheart, Roxanne (Berry), after not seeing her for decades. Mike soon finds out that a lot has changed since he last saw Roxanne, and she is now a US Intelligence Office who recruits him on a high-stakes mission. The Union is produced by Mark Wahlberg and directed by Julian Farino, who is known for his work behind the camera on popular shows like Entourage, Ballers, Florida Man, and In Treatment.
2. Terminator Zero
Terminator Zero is an anime series developed by Mattson Tomlin and set in the Terminator universe. The 8-part series serves as the first Terminator TV show since The Sarah Connor Chronicles in 2008. It will also stand as the first ever animated Terminator series. With Timothy Olyphant voicing The Terminator, the show is set between two timelines – 1997 and 2022. The 2022 part of the show focuses on the war that has raged for decades between human survivors and an endless army of machines. The 1997 part of the show will focus on the aftermath of Judgement Day August 29, where Skynet gained self-awareness. Interestingly, this is actually the date that James Cameron originally set for Judgement Day in his 1991 masterpiece, Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Furthermore, it’s also the date that the series will land on Netflix. Terminator Zero will hit Netflix on August 29, 2024.
1. The Deliverance
The Deliverance is an exciting project for Netflix for many reasons. The upcoming horror movie is helmed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Lee Daniels (Precious, The Paperboy), and stars 8-time Oscar-nominee Glenn Close, Omar Epps, Andra Day, and Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin. The movie follows a family living in a home in Indiana who discover strange, demonic occurrences that convince them and the community that the house is actually a portal to hell. Daniels wrote the script alongside David Coggeshall (Orphan: First Kill), and Elijah Bynum (Magazine Dreams). The Deliverance will land on Netflix on August 30, 2024.
