NBC: Community Not Cancelled; Law & Order: SVU Casts Harry Connick Jr.

NBC is presenting at the annual winter TCA right now and the network’s Entertainment Chairman, Bob Greenblatt, is addressing some concerns and making a few announcements during the executive panel.
First up is the attempt to calm the worries of Community fans. The show was left off the midseason schedule, causing many fans to worry that it had been cancelled or was quietly being killed. Greenblatt was quick to say that the show has definitely not been cancelled and will return at some point in the spring. “When I announced our midseason changes last fall and took Community off the schedule, I failed to explicitly say that it would be back,” he explained. “I want to expel any notion that it is just disappearing off the schedule.” Basically, the network is waiting to see what happens with their new block of six comedies on Thursday nights before deciding where to put the show.
Law & Order: SVU, meanwhile, lost its long-time male lead (Chris Meloni) this season. Two new detectives were brought in, but the show has seen a decline in the ratings. Greenblatt announced today that the show has cast Harry Connick Jr. for a multi-episode arc as Executive Assistant District Attorney David Hadena. Hadena will act as a love interest for Det. Olivia Benson (played by Mariska Hargitay). Hargitay also announced that she’s completely committed to the show and is determined to return to the show for another season if it is renewed.
