It’s hard to believe that it’s been 20 years since The Notorious B.I.G. AKA Christopher Wallace was shot and killed. His longtime friend and producer Sean “Diddy” Combs posted a video to both his Twitter and Instagram accounts to tribute his friend’s life. Combs wrote, “20 years ago today we lost the greatest rapper of all time, The Notorious B.I.G. We’re celebrating his life through his music and through his legacy today. I want everyone to get involved and rap your favorite Biggie verse, tag me and use the hashtag #WeMissYouBIG @badboyent.”
In addition to Combs, the BET network plans on having a 24 hour celebration of the rap icon’s life and music. Biggie was shot four times in a drive-by-shooting March 9, 1997 and died about one hour later. He became one of the industry’s biggest names and will go down as one of the best rappers of all-time. The Notorious B.I.G. started rapping as a Brooklyn teen and it was producer Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs who heard his demo and signed Biggie to his newly-formed label, Bad Boy Records.
From there, Biggie became a star. Unfortunately his demise came at a time when there was a terrible East Coast/West Coast rivalry in the rap game. A rivalry that became lethal and resulted in the drive by shooting. Wallace’s legacy will always live on in the hip hop industry and he will forever be missed.
Here is Combs’ video.
