“MTV Unplugged” is back this fall and Shawn Mendes is here to help kick off the revival. The new season premiered on September 8, 2017 and it’s going to be packed with more cool jams and entertainment for viewers. For those of you who enjoy the reinvented versions of your favorite singers and bands, this is going to be a real treat. There has historically been a lot of stripped down and pure music coming from the series in past episodes. It’s re-emergence is timely and we’re expecting viewership to be high.
The premiere
Mendes was the perfect choice to start the new season of the show. The popular young singer performed from the Ace Hotel’s downtown Los Angeles’ Theater. He some pieces that fans have not yet heard before. This gives us a different perspective on the singer, and he accomplished this in a memorable performance that showcased his talent. Unplugged offers a more intimate setting that helps viewers to feel a little more in touch with the artists because they are able to kick back at the more relaxed venue and let viewers hear the pure sounds of their music. Shawn shared that the show has been more about the music than the commercial aspect and perhaps this is the appeal that it has with music lovers.
What we can expect next
The new “MTV Unplugged” will feature different venues that have a special meaning for the artist that is appearing on the episode. It could be where they first performed professionally, a place that is near and dear to their hearts, or some other place that they have a real connection with. We can expect to see the unplugged version of their concerts in a variety of locales.
Reaching out to a new generation
One of the results that we’re seeing with the new season is that so far, it has a tremendous appeal to the new generation of music lovers. There will be elements of the original show that launched in 1989, but the focus for this season will be on the younger singers and the viewers that they attract. We’ll see many of the top artists of today featured as the stars of each episode.
September 15th, look for Bleachers in the Bleach episode. Jack Antonoff and his band will be performing selected tracks in an acoustic version from their “Gone Now release. The venue for this concert will be at the Stone Pony, located in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The Bleachers episode with also feature Carly Rae Jepsen and Lorde as guests.
