A look behind the scenes for A Wrinkle in Time shows that it took a lot of people and a lot of effort to make this classic finally come to life. There are a lot of people that have been waiting so long for this film that it’s been a frustrating wait that they can’t sit still for when it’s so close to making its way to the theaters. The story is a type of Christian fantasy that promotes both the love one has for their family and the dangers of mechanistic and purely ordered thinking that gives time for nothing other than function over form. In essence the film is about the love of family and what can be done to save them when one puts their mind to it.
Meg and her brother Charles embark on a quest to save their missing father, whom they had presumed was dead. Upon finding him they endanger themselves as the entity known only as IT, no, not a Stephen King thing, threatens to enslave them through mind control. When Meg, her father, and their three benefactors, Mrs. Who, Mrs. Which, and Mrs. Whatsit, help them to rescue her brother from IT they quickly return home, at which point the Mrs. W’s depart yet again. It’s a fun and engaging story that shows the power of love and of belief from a very interesting standpoint, but the fantasy of it is so widespread that it would have taken a very big effort from everyone involved to bring it to life.
While the movie comes out in early March it will remain to be seen if it will live up to the expectations. Thus far the previews have people buzzing and depict what could only be called a movie that will bring to life a very real sense of childhood nostalgia that a lot of us are likely looking forward to. The scope of the movie though is something that’s not too hard to believe but is still something to be marveled at. Creating each world had to take time, patience, a great deal of money, and a crew that was completely dedicated to making it happen. Fans are sure to be delighted since in less than two months time this classic will be here and ready to view on the big screen.
That being said it will definitely be more of an adolescent film it seems like since the story was for kids back in the day. It’s amazing right now to think that a lot of us read this kind of story and weren’t so insanely creeped out when you consider many books for kids nowadays seem far more innocent and less likely to create nightmares. Does anyone recall the old stories and fables and how grim they were? A Wrinkle in Time wasn’t even close to being the worst among them in terms of being scary or even disturbing, but some tales got truly down and dirty and even outright dark. This one had the potential to be dark, but was at least uplifting in a few ways.
