A movie villain can take many forms. Modern villains keep finding all new ways to invade popular culture. The fact is, film “baddies” have a unique way of standing out and being memorable, regardless of the plot of the movie.
Each year, there are some movie villains that stand out more than others. Here, you can find the tip five picks for movie villains and the role they are best known for. You can also learn why everyone loves to hate these five individuals.
Adam Driver as Kylo Ren in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”
Kylo Ren, a wizard, is the grandson of one of the most famous and well-known (even for non-Star Wars fans) of all time, Darth Vader. While he showed real promise in “The Force Awakens” as a great bad guy, in “The Last Jedi,” he evolved, thanks to the hyper-focused desire to prove himself and the distracting obsessive wrath against any and all father figures. This villain is truly as complicated as they come, and the biggest question at the end of “The Last Jedi,” is whether or not he is going to turn good.
Adrian Toomes as Vulture in “Spider-Man: Homecoming”
Some consider Toomes the top “baddie” of 2017. There is a good reason for this — he is the smartest of them all. Famouse for selling super powered technology to the black market, Toomes has taken this typical bad-guy move to another level by re-engineering the products — making a mess of villains and good guys. He gets away with his efforts for eight years before getting on the radar of The Avengers. This is one bad guy who won’t soon be forgotten.
Betty Gabriel, Marcus Henderson, Allison Williams, Caleb Landry Jones, Catherine Keener and Bradley Whitford as The Armitage Family in “Get Out”
The real uniqueness of this show is the fact that there isn’t a “main” villain in “Get Out.” While some have singled out Allison Williams, who played Rose, as being the “baddest,” Catherine Keener, Missy, has the most devious and chilling role. By far, however, the most memorable due to the high creep factor is Betty Gabriel who plays Georgina.
Pennywise in “IT”
Fear is a huge motivation for villains and heroes alike and there is no one who does fear better than Pennywise, the well-known dancing clown that is the star of the newly released version of “IT” by Stephen King. Not only does this “ancient” evil trick children into being his supper, but also manipulates the entire town to kill his father.
Luke Evans as Gaston in “Beauty and the Beast”
Another show that has been remade and the new version may be better than the original, is the Disney classic, “Beauty and the Beast.” Just like the cartoon, everyone despises Gaston, and in the remake, this is no exception.
There you have it, the worst of the worst when it comes to villains in movies this year. Chances are you can think of a few others, but these are the top five.
