I loved the Thor: Ragnarok trailer just as much as the next guy. There’s a reason this thing is approaching 30 million views and is the highest viewed Marvel movie trailer in history. The gladiator theme was an amazing touch. There’s a perfect blend of humor, action, and from the tiny bit you see of Cate Blanchett it’s all you need to know just how slick a character she is. But there’s one wild card that I think gives this trailer an unfair advantage. It’s quite simple really. It’s “Immigrant Song.”
I mean come on! You’re already moving the needle in your favor if you’re using one of Led Zeppelin’s best pump up songs in history. Remember The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo intro? That was one of the coolest movie intros ever. Why? Because they used a remake of “Immigrant Song.” I’m pretty sure if you use that song for nearly any action movie trailer you’re going to boost view count by at least 5 million.
So yeah, nice try Marvel. Great trailer but you totally cheated.
