Predictions from Back to the Future 2 That Actually Came True

Predictions from Back to the Future 2 That Actually Came True

Sequels usually miss the mark when they follow the first film in a duology, trilogy, or series, but with Back to the Future 2 that trend was broken once again since the movie turned out to be just as good as the first one and in some cases better since we got to see the movie go down more than one possible past and future. Indeed, we got to see a few outlandish predictions about the future that we probably didn’t think would ever come true since they were so implausible that you couldn’t help but think that the writers were just being silly. Plus, movies set in the future usually have a very big propensity to go and make up the most outlandish tales you can think of in order to make the movie a little more appealing to the audience. Don’t believe me? Think about 2001: A Space Odyssey, or Escape from New York, or any other movie that stated by the 90’s and into the 2000’s life would be so much more advanced than it is now. Almost any movie made about the future is bound to be extremely tragic or technologically advanced in a way that defies easy explanation at this point.

The whole idea of it is that those predictions are something that people might find enticing enough to watch for after viewing the movie. Thinking that the predictions will come true is something that keeps people entertained, but when some of those predictions made in movies do come true it becomes yet another reason to actually pay attention and think that some people might actually have their finger on the pulse of the world as far as what’s going to happen and what’s entirely likely.

Really, did you think that anything that came out of that movie would be possible by the time 2015 rolled around?

12. 3D movies

3D movies are not a new idea since they’ve been around for a while, but the advancements in 3D technology have come a long way and are a lot closer to what was presented in the movie. In fact it’s safe to say that a lot of people are looking forward the to days when 3D won’t require a special pair of glasses and can be viewed like this thanks to a special kind of projector that acts like something out of Star Wars. It could be coming, just wait.

11. Tablets

It’s a very brief scene but if you look at the guy that’s trying to talk to Marty in the movie about the clock tower, go figure it’s a regular part of each movie, he’s holding a rather clunky device that looks like an early version of a tablet. Now it’s not exactly the slim and sleek things we use today but it’s something that was still unheard of back when this movie came out.

10. Drones

Again, most of the stuff that is seen as advanced tech in this movie is clunky and unwieldy by the standards of today but then the movie was released it was one of the coolest things to see a news drone hovering nearby to cover the story and it seemed to foreshadow what might happen in the coming years. While drones aren’t necessarily used for news purposes they are used extensively for other reasons.

9. Big screen TV’s

If you grew up in the 80’s and 90’s then you knew what it was to have a TV that was for better or worse a giant box that was heavy as all hell and not easy to move at all. Flat screens were still something that had a humongous box attached to the back of them, while some TV’s doubled as furniture thanks to their big and ornate cases. Flatscreen TV’s thankfully reduced the need to have so much room for a TV.

8. Hands-free video games

When you listen to the kids in the cafe complaining about how a game that requires one to use their hands is a baby toy it might bring a tear to the eyes of those that spent so much time mastering the skill of using a toy gun to shoot ducks out of the digital sky. But nowadays you might need a controller still but thanks to wireless tech you don’t always need your hands.

7. Flying cars

So we’re not really at this point yet but at the moment there are those that are attempting to make cars fly and there are even those that have created cars that hover like drones. But no one’s seen a flying DeLorean yet.

6. Multiple TV channels

Remember when the channel within a channel became popular? That seems so quaint now that we can experience multiple channels on the same screen and across all of our devices. The over-stimulation might be a little too much for some but for kids being raised in this century it’s already a normal thing.

5. Fingerprint recognition

This seems like a sketchy idea really but it does have its merits since no two people have exactly the same fingerprints. But considering how skilled thieves are getting each and every year it’s just a matter of time it would seem until this tech becomes corruptible, if it’s not already.

4. VR headsets

I can recall when the first versions of these things came out and were considered to be so awesome. The first ones were almost like medieval helmets they were so huge. But now we have VR headsets that can work with a person’s phone.

3. Restaurants without waiters

The restaurants aren’t entirely without waiters just yet, but the inclusion of tablets on the tables does mean that the interaction between the guests and the waiters has become far less than it used to be.

2. The Cubs won the World Series.

Did anyone even see that one coming? It wasn’t quite true by 2015 but it didn’t take long for the Cubs to make it that way.

1. Voice commands

This seems like another aspect of technology that could be heavily exploited at one point, but to many people who don’t worry over that it’s become a rather big deal and something they can no longer do without. Personally it seems like one more way to help people avoid doing things on their own.

Yes, I am very much into the old school way of living at times.
