It’s always fun to see what movie posters would look like if they’d been made in some alternate universe where the pop culture icons of the bygone era were allowed to run loose on the big screen. Can you even imagine if these kind of movies, in their current form, had been unleashed on the public at that point? Chances are today’s entertainment would have been a lot different.
Avatar
I think we all know what part John Wayne would play. Can you imagine him and Shatner going at one another. “You think you’re one of them? Well it’s time to wake up then pilgrim!” That would have been a tough as nails Quaritch.
Superman
Well I reckon I’m here for justice, liberty, and the American way! John Wayne as Superman seems like he’d have just a little too much swagger. Plus, Clint Eastwood as General Zod, oy. “Go ahead Superman, make my day.”
For Special Services
I think Mick Jagger would be singing less of I Can’t Get No (Satisfaction) and more She’s So Cold. Plus, I don’t know as he’d be the best 007 simply because he’d be like another Austin Powers really.
The Terminator
When movie posters used to give away the most sensible solution to the deadliest questions in the movie it might have seemed like a ripoff when it was supposed to be an enticement. Imagine if the original Terminator had tried to do this.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Danny Bonaduce is the savior of mankind?! Oh boy, we’re all in trouble, especially if Christopher Walken is the T-1000. “Your tone, it’s all wrong. You’re talkin’ to me in the wrong tone! Do it again, I’ll stab you in the face with my finger!”
Inception
The story would definitely work but the sets would have to be so horribly elaborate that it would be like walking into one of those old Labyrinth games that were so popular once upon a time.
Pulp Fiction
I don’t know about this one. My brain just kind of went on lockdown on account of how many big stars there were for the original and how it seemingly fragmented only to slam back together near the end.
The Hangover
Why do I get the feeling this would be like art imitating life in some hilarious way?
Drive
Well, both versions of the movie definitely had their ultra-sexy male lead down pat.
Die Hard
Please tell me he wouldn’t be trying to use logic to get the terrorists to surrender. Logically speaking, I am the star of the movie, while you are all supporting cast. Therefore logic states that I will kill you all and lose only one hostage.
The Fifth Element
I get this strange feeling that there would be less “saving” going on and a lot more Bond-related shenanigans on Connery’s part.
The Big Lebowski
Well, Zappa was definitely A dude. But can you imagine Bowie wearing padding or gaining that much weight for a role?
Trainspotting
I’m just blown away by the actors in this promo and how young they look. They were actually aspiring young actors at one time.
Hollywood would be a vastly different place if these versions had ever been created.
