Hi, my name is Vaishali. Together with my partner Nayan, we are paper-cut artists based in India.
A little introduction to the art project. Some years ago we started a 365-day challenge of creating miniature birds using paper and watercolor painting. And we did it every day for the entire year! Gradually, the 365-day project turned into something bigger. We continued our series till 2020, which resulted in 1000 artworks being created.
Each work of art begins with a sketch on paper. After that, different layers are traced from the sketch on 200 GSM watercolor paper. Then each layer is precisely hand-cut and then they are ready for coloring. Each tiny layer is hand-painted with watercolors with utmost precision. Finally, all the layers are assembled together to get a 3-dimensional look for our tiny colorful birds.
Every single artwork takes about 4-8 hours to complete depending on the details of the beautiful birds such as feathers and colors. Some of the tiniest paper birds measure only 0.7 inches in height (from head to tail).
Through our unique art, we want to share the beauty and significance of these rare birds. We hope that people will understand the importance of all bird species and will help to save them.
“Climate is changing we should also change now.”
