Meghan McCain Joins “The View” as Regular Co-Host

The View started up in 1997, but it has managed to remain popular in spite of the changing times. With that said, it is important to note that the TV show of the present is not the same as the TV show of the past, as shown by the fact that its panel of co-hosts has seen numerous changes over the course of the TV show’s existence. For example, the current panel is about to have one more member in the form of Meghan McCain, who will be stepping in after Jedediah Bila’s departure from the TV show.

Who Is Meghan McCain?

When the name McCain comes up, chances are good that a lot of people are going to think of U.S. Senator John McCain. This is not unreasonable in this case, seeing as how Meghan McCain happens to be John McCain’s daughter with his wife Cindy Hensley McCain. In fact, people who remember the 2008 U.S. presidential election might remember that she came to the public’s attention because of her involvement in the McCain campaign.

In short, Meghan McCain went to some effort to help her father with his presidential campaign. For example, she changed her party registration from being an Independent to being a Republican as a personal show of support. Furthermore, she did a fair amount of blogging, which was meant to raise her father’s profile with members of Generation Y. However, it is interesting to note that some of the staffers for the McCain campaign are said to have limited her involvement with the presidential campaign because she was perceived as being “controversial.”

Looking at Meghan McCain’s stated political beliefs, that perception becomes understandable, seeing as some of them were rather unorthodox by the standards of the Republican Party of those times. Never mind the Republican Party of the present. For example, she has a long record of supporting gay rights, as shown by her membership on the Board of Directors for GLAAD as well as her participation in a campaign that protested the passage of a constitutional amendment in California that banned same-sex marriage in that state.

Furthermore, while Meghan McCain is pro-life, she also happens to support birth control as well as sex education because of simple pragmatism. Finally, she shares Senator John McCain’s support for initiatives combating climate change, which has somehow managed to remain a controversial political position in spite of worldwide consensus that it is a serious issue that needs to be addressed by a worldwide effort. Summed up, it is no wonder that there were staffers in the McCain campaign who feared that her involvement in the presidential campaign might have been “controversial.”

Regardless, Meghan McCain has not been idle since the 2008 U.S. presidential campaign, which was after all, a long, long time ago by political standards. Some examples of her subsequent career include but are not limited to writing a blog, writing books, and making various appearances in various TV shows. Most recently, she became a FOX News contributor in 2015, which led to her becoming a co-host on one of its talk shows in 2016. As a result, Meghan McCain does actually have a fair amount of experience when it comes to TV shows, meaning that her time as a co-host on The View might be worth watching.
