Chicago Med is one compelling television series that caught the attention of many fans as the doctors and nurses in the show work hard to save the lives of patients. The series is set in Chicago and focuses on the experiences in a fictional medical center in Chicago. Due to the thrill in the first four seasons, audiences are passionately eager to see what goes on in the fifth season. With the start of the Chicago Med season 5, there are changes in the cast. Not all characters who were in the fourth season finale are returning so here is the cast of season 5.
Oliver Platt
Platt stars in the series as Dr. Daniel Charles, the head psychiatrist in the medical center with a lot of ex-wives. Dr. Charles is also a great mentor to many in the medical center. He lives a secret life but concentrates more on his professional relationships. It is ironical that Dr. Charles is a psychiatrist but is also suffering from depression in the first season. In the fourth season, Caroline, one of his ex-wives, comes to the hospital seeking therapy for cancer. In the process of attending to her, Charles falls in love with her again. He even wanted to get her a job around the place or resign and follow her. The season ended with them remarrying, but the health of Caroline is still an issue, and they are to deal with it in season 5.
Nick Gehfuss
Nick Gehfuss takes the role of Halstead, who was a plastic surgeon but is now an emergency medical attendant. He feels guilty after causing an accident that led to Natalie, his true love, suffering a severe brain injury. Natalie jumped to Will’s car as he was leaving the hospital and a car crashed to them violently. It did not become clear on what Natalie wanted to tell him and why she jumped into the car since the accident covered everything. He also has some injuries from the crash but ignores them to concentrate on Natalie. Dr. Will even goes ahead to apologize to his father for the harm caused to Natalie. He appears in the show as a compassionate and competent doctor doing what it takes to ensure that his patients receive treatment in the best possible way. Apart from competence, he is sometimes stubborn and breaks many rules.
Marlyne Barrett
Marlyne Barrett appears in the series as Maggie Lockwood. Maggie is the nurse in charge of the emergency department. She takes complete control of the department and is so loyal to her job that she seems not to have any plans to retire. In her interview with the glu, Marlyne says that she is a victim of sexual assault that happened in 2005 at a massage parlor. She grew up in a medical setting with her mother being a midwife. The writer gives her a storyline as a nurse who prioritizes her patients’ lives. In the first season, she landed herself in a problem as she was trying to save a patient. The drunk patient ended up hitting a police officer, and Maggie was in a hurry to save lives. Maggie and Connor were to take samples of the alcohol first before carrying out the surgery on the patient. Maggie, however, said that they were in a hurry to save the patient’s life and never took the sample. The police officer arrested her for obstruction, but Connor later bailed her out.
S. Epatha Merkerson
S. Epatha Merkerson takes the role of Sharon Goodwill. She is the chief of services in the medical center. Goodwill is the final authority on matters concerning legal issues in medicine, disciplining, and professional ethics by the employees. She is the ex-wife to Bert who loved to entice her to travel to exotic locations with him. At the end of the first season, the two decide to part ways. In the second season, Sharon is emotionally disturbed after the separation and finally initiates a divorce. She is a typical activist as we see in season four. She argues with the nurses and doctors, fights with the hospital board, and complains over the issues of the budget. One of Epatha’s best moments in the series is when she did a rare thing of saving the life of a newborn. A man was holding a gun trying to shoot the baby. Sharon came in between the arm and the baby to handle the situation. The writer in the series gives her the storyline of an interesting and strong woman who does not quit until she fixes things.
Colin Donell
Colin Donell takes the role of Dr. Connor Rhodes. Colin will be appearing for only one episode like his colleague Ava. Colin’s fans remember him for his success in season 3 of separating the conjoined twins. He is leaving the show because of his ex-girlfriend Ava, whom they were working together, admitting that she killed his father. Ava says that she did it because of them, but Connor was mad at her. Their appearance on one episode of the show is to update the fans on the reasons why they are no longer employees in the hospital. According to People, the writer says that the exit of the two is due to creative reasons.
Norma Kuhling
Kuhling plays the role of Dr. Ava. She is a trauma surgeon from South Africa. Due to her professional boundaries with Connor Rhodes, they are always in conflict. Connor turns her down as they were reconciling because he suspected her to be behind the death of his father. She seems to confirm that she is the killer who gave the patient synthetic insulin and left the hospital. According to One Chicago Center, Kuhling is coming to the show for only one episode. Due to the awkward ending that left many fans in suspense, the writer acknowledged Colin and Kuhling to appear for only episode one and have them leave for good.
