Meet Liliana Barrios: Black Ink Crew Chicago’s Newest Artist

For a while now the reality shows have been controlling a good portion of the TV programming on various networks and have gotten a little out of control. Some of the shows are actually entertaining while others are little more than drivel that is scooped up and served to the public like so much mystery meat during school lunch. But the new addition to Black Ink Crew: Chicago is bound to shake things up just a little bit as she makes her way into the life and seeks to find her place on the crew. Liliana Barrios is a very charismatic young woman that knows what she wants and isn’t shy about going out to go get it.

Here’s a few things we’ve learned about her thus far.

5. She’s very family-oriented.

She was born in Chicago and identifies as a Mexican-American. Her family is quite big as she puts it and as a result she’s grown up being very family-oriented. This is a pleasant change from the often troubled and dreary back-stories that many reality show cast members offer, as it gives hope to those watching that there are those people on reality TV that are very real about their personal history.

4. She’s been into art since she was little.

A lot of us doodled and even got into art when we were little, but Lily was the type that did nothing but draw. As time went on her skill kept getting better and better and eventually someone even asked her if she would be interested in doing something with her artwork. Lo and behold someone asked her if she wanted to get into the world of tattooing and here she is.

3. A friend let her practice on him so she could get experience.

How many friends do you know that would allow you to stick you with a tattoo that could possibly be a failed first attempt? Lily admits to being reluctant to do such a thing to her friend, but then again her friend did keep telling her that it was okay, that she needed the practice. That’s pretty inspiring that any friend would go to that length to help someone out.

2. Her family is very supportive of her choice to be a tattoo artist.

While they do advise caution at times her family still tells her to keep her eyes on the prize and always take care of herself. That’s the type of family that one can get behind, the type that will always tell you to go for your dreams and do whatever it takes to make yourself known in the world you choose to live in.

1. She wants to be known for her accomplishments, not just for being pretty.

Lily knows she’s pretty, there’s no doubt of it. But she doesn’t want to be the type to rely on her looks alone and let someone support her for the rest of her life. She wants to get by on her own merit and let people recognize her for what she does. That’s a strong-willed and very real person.

With this kind of attitude and perseverance there’s no doubt that Lily is going places.
