Recently announced at ComicsPRO, from Marvel will come a new ongoing series, I Am Groot by Christopher Hastings and Flaviano. The comic will star Baby Groot, separated from the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxyand exploring it on his own. The comic is expected to come out in May. While no one’s necessarily been harping on it yet, one of the biggest mistakes that Marvel executives will admit to with their first go around of Guardians of the Galaxy is not foreseeing the appeal of Baby Groot.
If you noticed, there was barely any merchandise or hype surrounding the adorable character when the first movie was released. However, Marvel does not look like it’s making the same mistake twice. In fact, if anything they may very well go overboad with Baby Groot marketing once Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 is released. The lovable little hero is going to have shirts, toys, games, books, pens, pencils, you name it.
Now the Baby is getting a stand alone comic. It’s quite possible we’ll suffer Baby Groot burnout but I think we’re at least 5 movies and a few Baby Groot stand alone cartoons from that. If you think there won’t be a Baby Groot cartoon you are surely mistaken.
