In the movie The Social Network, Hollywood portrayed Mark Zuckerberg as a relatively awkward guy who was having a hard time getting along with females. The movie makes it seem as though his real intention for starting Facebook was to “get girls.” While some of this may be true, it’s important to point out that this is Hollywood and the narrative had to be relatable so that audiences would be more drawn in. Zuckerberg did create Facemash, a “hot or not” clone which eventually led to Facebook but if you were to ask Zuckerberg today why he created the site he would probably say something along the lines of “to connect people.”
If you were to ask him the same question today, his answer would probably be more along the lines of “to connect the world.” But not only that. Facebook obviously has unlimited power and applications to do whatever it wishes. The reality is that Facebook is becoming (if not already) its own ecosystem, its own “internet” if you will. Given the abundance of users and people’s reliance on Facebook a more accurate depiction of why Facebook was created can be found below:
Let’s face it, this is 100% accurate.
