Episode 2 of the latest airplane related saga, Manifest, gets even weirder. More questions arise, not much gets answered, and you’re left wondering what’s coming next.
At the close of the pilot, the plane had blown up. No one knows how or why the passengers were brought together to witness it blowing up. One thing the FBI does know — or think they know — is someone from the group that was there has something to do with it. So they have one request, don’t talk to the media while the investigation is going on.
It’s a reasonable request. They don’t know what happened. Is it aliens? Was the time warp? Are there supernatural forces at work here — possibly. Something strange is happening and now add in shadows and people getting their heads blown off.
The shadow isn’t the strangest element — obviously, someone is stalking the lady that went and told everyone on national TV that some freaky shit went down and they’re all messed up — but little Cal drew a shadow in his family portrait. How did he know that? Is he foreshadowing that someone is going to get killed? At first you think that maybe he’s subconsciously picking up on his momma’s new lover, but with the rest of the pieces in place, it’s clear that he was picking up on this murderous Peter Pan thing.
Meanwhile, Michaela is dealing with her own problems. She doesn’t have the five years of memories everyone else does so seeing her old BFF again — the same BFF who married her beau — she’s somewhat startled. Doesn’t know how to handle. It’s understandable. If your best friend married the love of your life chances are you would feel the urge to vomit a little at seeing the two of them together. It’s going to take time for her to get over this. But she starts to make an effort after seeing the 5 years of beautiful posts from her best friend in her honor. She had kept a memorial page for her and stayed her best friend. Lordes didn’t do anything to hurt her. She was hoping that she would get her blessing. It’s going to take time, but this relationship might be able to make it.
Another relationship that is on the bender might be Ben and Grace. While they were missing, Grace met someone. She clearly still has feelings for said someone, but unlike Jared, she was/is married. Ben ends up finding out from another source, but luckily for her he’s the understanding type. A real prince charming. They make up — and get it on — before the curtain closes. But is this short lived? Her other lover is bound to show up at some point, right? That’s drama just waiting to happen. This is a TV drama after all.
Lovers aside, the violin playing in Ben’s head eventually leads him to a storage locker that helps to prove another passenger’s son’s innocence in a robbery. Proving once again, that these supernatural powers these passengers have suddenly gained are there to make them super heroes and save people that need help and don’t know where to get it from. People who are more or less in a state of hopelessness.
The son didn’t think he’d ever get out. He wasn’t sure that they would be able to find enough evidence to prove his innocence but they did. Last week, those girls had been missing for a while. It was the top case everyone was talking about, but Michaela was able to save them. There is a pattern here. Lost causes getting that second chance.
A second chance that all of these people got when the plane landed. Cal wouldn’t have been alive at the current moment had the plane not done the weird thing it did. They all were presumed dead for 5 years. They got a second chance and they’re there to give others that same chance. Or so it seems.
Maybe that’s subterfuge for the time being. They did add in the shadow killer right at the end. Maybe this show is more going along the lines of killing one person each week until there’s only one left standing. That would be very morbid but more of a mystery. Who knows? Stay tuned to find out who is this psycho killer and why he killed that woman.
Manifest airs Monday nights at 10/9c on NBC.
