The Madame Blanc Mysteries debuted in late 2021, pulling around 2.5 million viewers per episode to become one of Channel 5’s most popular new shows. Alongside Acron TV, Channel 5 ordered the British drama mystery originally titled The Reluctant Madame Blanc for a six-episode season in January 2021. The show premiered on October 16, 2021, and quickly won viewers with its unique story about a widowed antiquarian and amateur detective.
Given the first season’s success, The Madame Blanc Mysteries returned for Season 2 in December 2022 with seven episodes that concluded on February 9, 2023. A Christmas Special aired that year, leading into Season 3’s arrival in January 2024. Sally Lindsay’s fascination with Agatha Christe’s works and the worlds of antiques inspired the mystery crime drama she co-created with Sue Vincent. “Putting the two together and creating the world of St. Victoire with Sue has been an absolute joy,” she said in a statement from Saffron Cherry Productions, where she’s a Creative Director.
What’s The Madam Blanc Mysteries All About?
The series revolves around Jean White, a popular antiquarian running a successful business with her husband, Rory (Peter Gaynor), in Cheshire, England. Her life takes a new path after the tragic death of Rory, who perished in a mysterious car crash while returning from their cottage retreat in St. Victoire, Southern France. Upon learning everything they owned vanished with Rory’s passing, Jean turned to the only asset left for answers.
She leaves England for their cottage in France, where she bonds with a taxi driver to investigate the circumstances around her husband’s death. From a widow seeking answers over the suspicious death of her partner, Jane transitioned into a private investigator helping the local police. Each episode of the series follows Jane and Dom the taxi driver as they unravel various mysteries, most of which center on murder.
Who Are The Cast Of The Drama Mystery?
The Madam Blanc Mysteries stars the show’s creator and lead writer Sally Lindsay as the lead actor. Lindsay plays Jean White, opposite Steve Edge’s Dom Hayes, the local taxi driver. Before the Channel 5 series, Lindsay was known for her roles in Coronation Street, Scott & Bailey, Mount Pleasant, and Still Open All Hours. For Edge, the drama mystery has sparked renewed interest in his career. While he has been active since the 90s with dozens of projects in his resume, The Madame Blanc Mysteries has propelled him back into the spotlight.
The series also stars its co-creator Sue Vincent as a local garage owner Gloria Beauchamp. The British actress performed in series like Coronation Street, Mount Pleasant, Shameless, and Bad Move. Other regular cast members include Alex Gaumond (Andre Caron), Robin Askwith (Jeremy Lloyd James), and Sue Holderness (Judith Lloyd James). Jacqueline Berces, Sanchia McCormack, Djind Kane, Aonghus Weber, Olivia Caffrey, and Margeaux Lampley all played recurring roles. The series also featured guest performances from several actors, including Paul O’Grady and Les Denni.
Will There Be The Madame Blanc Mysteries Season 4?
Season 3 of The Madame Blanc Mysteries concluded on February 8, 2024. The series hasn’t been renewed for Season 4, but the creator is positive Jean White and Dom Hayes will return to solve more murder mysteries. In an interview with Virgin Radio, Lindsay talked about the complicated nature of renewing a series. Nonetheless, she’s certain the show will be greenlit for another season. “It’s complicated but I’m sure we will have (Season 4),” she said, “I mean, I’ve written it in my head,” added the Jean White actress.
Neither Channel 5 nor Acron TV has commented on the show’s fate after Season 3. While it hasn’t been renewed, it also hasn’t been canceled. With a decision pending, there’s a good chance the cozy crime drama will return for season 4. Although the reviews have been moderate, the series’ viewership numbers are enough motivation for a renewal.
Where Was The Series Filmed?
The Madame Blanc Mysteries is set in the South of France and was originally meant to be filmed there. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the production crew began searching for another destination similar to Southern France. They eventually settled for Gozo, where most of the series’ scenes were shot. “We were going to film in France, but it proved so complicated,” Lindsay told Daily Mail. When Channel 5 suggested Gozo, Lindsay was skeptical because she had been to nearby Malta, which looked more like Spain.
Her opinion changed when she met Gozo. “It was unbelievable,” she said, “literally just a tiny drive in and it was like we were in the South of France. Even our French actor thought it looked like France!” The actors and production crew enjoy filming on the Mediterranean island.
