It’s a little hard to focus on something like MSNBC when three bystanders wearing inflatable T-Rex outfits are crashing together in the background. I think it might be fair to say that whoever was really watching this broadcast might have had to pay strict attention to the words that were being spoken and perhaps keep their eyes upon the lady on the right in order to get the gist of what was being said. But of course it would be easy to allow your eyes to drift back to the left since movement does manage to capture the eyes of many a person no matter how hard they try to resist it. Now comes the interesting question: did the T-Rex-wearing bystanders know that they were interrupting the newscast? Or were they just having fun?
It’s nothing new to see people trying to get on TV by interrupting a newscast or photobombing someone in various locations. But since they didn’t really seem to be playing the camera it’s very easy to assume that the T-Rex folks were simply doing something foolish in a public place where they might be seen. That sounded a bit silly even to me. Most folks don’t tend to wear those things just for fun unless it’s Halloween or they’ve got a very exuberant sense of humor. Plus, wearing them is usually something that is used to get attention so it’s hard to think that they didn’t know that they were on live TV. The fact that they didn’t get closer could mean that they didn’t want to be a burden, which is at least partially considerate, but it’s still hard to believe that they didn’t know what they were doing.
Even on a mild to cool day I’ve heard tell that those costumes get unbearably hot inside. Think about it this way, you’re placing yourself in a giant rubber suit, or whatever it’s made of, that’s designed for air flow but is still not as efficient at this as it can possibly be. Then you’re prancing around, crashing into those who are like-minded and wearing the same suit. Eventually you’re going to start heating up, sweating, and perhaps even breathing hard, which only adds to the discomfort.
I don’t think a lot of folks are going to do that just on a lark.
They’re not really doing any harm though I get the feeling that if the newscaster knew anything about it she might have commented already. Maybe she’d already seen the faux tussle and thought it wasn’t really worth commenting on so she kept going with her newscast. That would mean she has at least some discipline and a lot of dedication to her job. It would probably make for a great blooper reel moment though. Those suits get unbearably hot and stifling and it’s likely that the T-Rex’s didn’t last all that long after starting up, unless of course they were better ventilated than most that I’ve seen.
Still, it seems like it’s just a thing to do in terms of trying to disrupt a newscast.
