Laura Benanti’s Melania Defends Donald Trump to Stephen Colbert on The Late Show

The Late Show‘s Stephen Colbert and many other late night talk show hosts haven’t been afraid to criticize the actions of Donald Trump, especially in recent weeks as Trump’s sexually inappropriate misdeeds have come to light. However, there are some people out there that have rushed to Trump’s defense, such as his wife, Melania, who claimed during her recent CNN interview that Trump’s “locker room talk” wasn’t his fault because he was egged on by Billy Bush to speak in such a foul manner.

“Yes, it was all Billy Bush’s fault,” Colbert said. “Now I know why they were on a bus. It’s easier to throw Billy underneath it.”

Because of Melania’s Trump recent comments, Colbert wanted to give her the chance to speak openly again, which is why he had Melania (or really just actress Laura Benanti doing an incredibly spot-out impression of her) return to The Late Show again last night to shed new light on her husband’s actions. While discussing these issues with Colbert, Melania Trump double-downed on the fact that the “locker room talk” situation was more of Billy Bush’s fault than her husband’s, but when Colbert asked her if she blames Donald Trump for what he said back in 2005, she admitted that she did.

“Yes, I do,” Melania said. “I said to my husband that those words are very unappropriate. Plus, he said them on a bus–disgusting. This is not the man I married.”

However, even though Melania is disappointed in Donald Trump’s behavior, she doesn’t seem too surprised. As she told Colbert, Trump’s 2005 comments and his alleged sexual harassment and possible assault of women in the past are just typical behavior from both boys and men.

“Boys, men, it’s the same,” she explained to Colbert. “No matter how nice they seem, secretly they’re all foul-mouthed, Billy Bush-grabbing pigs. I’m talking about your husband, your brother, the Pope, Luke Skywalker–all of them.”
