It is hard to believe that we are rapidly approaching the sixth installment of the Mission Impossible Franchise. The previous installments have been able to ride the momentum of those installments that preceded them back to the original. While you probably don’t need to be reminded of this, I will play it safe to make sure that you understand the impressive nature of what the Mission Impossible Franchise has been able to accomplish. It is immensely difficult for a movie to produce a sequel that is considered in the same league with the original. Film fans and critics are hard to please with the same characters and themes. Meaning the writers and producers have to be able to keep the central theme while changing the storyline and pushing the envelope of creativity. Well, the major players in the Mission Impossible Franchise have obviously mastered this discipline.
So what do we know about the latest installment of Mission Impossible? Well, first up is the fact that it has finally been confirmed that Alec Baldwin will be returning to the lineup. Director Christopher McQuarrie confirmed that Baldwin will be returning for the Mission Impossible 6 installment, even releasing a photo from the film set. It is without question that the addition of Baldwin will add depth and character to the film.
Additionally, McQuarrie is reprising his role as the writer and director of this latest installment in the franchise. It is McQuarrie’s role to take the film into a much darker and emotional territory than has been done in the past. While there are currently no plot details being released, it is certain that the film will have turns and twists that will take viewers completely off guard. Let us not forget that we can expect unadulterated action. If there has ever been a movie that was so full of high-quality action scenes that the acting could have completely stunk and the film would have still been a success, it would be Mission Impossible. But that is just it, the actions scenes are off the chart and the acting is superb.
Rebecca Ferguson’s character Lisa Faust from the Rogue Nation installment will be returning in the latest installment of this storied franchise. It is suspect that Alec Baldwin’s character will get a little bit more screen time than in Rogue Nation, having been promoted to the director of the IMF – meaning that it will be his responsibility to give Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his crew their missions.
Some of the other familiar faces that you can expect to six in Mission Impossible 6 include Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Michelle Monaghan, Sean Harris, and more. Some new cast member that you can expect will include Angela Bassett who will play the CIA director and Vanessa Kirby who will play a yet to be determined character in the film.
With McQuarrie writing and directing this installment, the sky is literally the limit of what fans can expect to see when it hits the big screen next year. While the director and production crew are being extremely tight lipped and slow in the release of information about the film, we will do our best to keep you updated as new information about the film is released.
