There is something about people who are not afraid to dream. People who dare to step outside of the box that average people attempt to put them in have the power not only to achieve great things in their lives, but they also inspire others to reach for the stars. VH1 is looking to tap into the energy of the dreamer with its new series, Signed. Signed is a reality television series starring Rick Ross, Lenny S., and The-Dream. On the show, aspiring artists will be asked to step inside of a recording booth and audition for these mega stars and moguls. And as the show suggests, the person who impresses the judges the most will end up signing a new contract to help launch their career in music.
One thing that I noticed about this show that is different from most of the other music-based reality shows is that these aspiring artist will be asked to perform original music. This reason this stands out to me is that it removes the sentimentality that is often key on other shows. When an artist is singing a song that everyone knows, it is easy to create the energy based on the song alone, but when you are performing a song that the audience and the judges have not heard, then it will be up to you to create the energy and pull them in. This takes the game to an entirely new level as far as I am concerned.
Another important element will the back stories associated with each of the contestants. Not everyone has the same motivation, but everyone is hungry. There will be those who are literally performing with the hopes of creating the capacity to take care of their family. Others will be there to prove to themselves that they have what it takes to make it. And yet others will be chasing something that they have been dreaming about all of their lives. No matter what the motivation, each and every contestant will have one thing on their minds — impressing the judges so that they will not get sent home.
While the mogul’s side of the equation has a completely different vibe, it is still quite intense. No, these music moguls have already proven that they can handle the pressure of stepping up to the plate and performing, so they don’t have that kind of pressure on them on this show, but they still have to be sharp and keen in judging the talent and potential of each artist because every person that steps inside of that booth has the potential to put another comma in their bank account and this makes thing interesting and competitive. Trust me, these guys are in this game to come out on top.
While Rick Ross has made it clear that it is about the money, The-Dream says he wants to see talent, and if the person does not have the talent he will have no problem showing them the door. Lenny S. says he is there to help people develop and refine their skills because while not everyone will win the competition, many will still have a future in the industry.
