Do you really know what you’re doing? Looking at the average age within this group of Community cast members, it’s obvious they all know about Beetlejuice, but do they really remember how bad the guy is? Let’s put aside the fact that I know very well, as do they, that Beetlejuice is not real, but do you really want to tempt fate that nothing and no one will answer the call?
There’s a saying that goes “You keep knocking on the devil’s door long enough and eventually someone’s going to answer.” Are you certain that you’d want this guy opening that door? Sure he might be fun for a little while, but once he gets good and mad, or just bored, anything and everything could happen. Do we need to be reminded of the movie?
He was nothing but trouble for the Maitland’s and the Deetz’s, remember? He was initially supposed to be the answer to a problem and then became the problem itself. He was not a nice person by any stretch of the imagination and was a menace at any other time, which is still putting it lightly.
Of course, what am I worried about right? He’s not real, and speaking his name once in a while without saying it three times in a row isn’t bound to do anything. But it’s still that thought that maybe, just maybe, the mythos somehow outlived the movie and is just waiting for someone to take that chance. It’s almost like someone daring to say Bloody Mary into a mirror in an effort to freak themselves and anyone next to them out. It’s fun, but it’s not bound to produce a result unless movie monsters and their magic are transferable to the real world.
He was pretty nasty though, and more inclined to harm anyone just standing in his way rather than just those he’d been set to take care of. He turned on the Maitland’s pretty quick, but in all fairness they did summon him to do some damage. They didn’t bother putting down any firm ground rules either, so really who’s to blame? Sigh, yeah, it’s still Beetlejuice. The Maitland’s wanted the Deetz’ out of their home, but they had no idea how to make it happen.
Wait, is that the main goal here? Are they trying to get someone out of the office? Are they going for an epic scare or just hoping that Beetlejuice exists in the same universe as the show? It’s a metaphysical quandary that actually holds some interesting plot points until you discover that it’s more of a funny gimmick and nothing else. But just imagine if they decided to go all out and make Beetlejuice appear. Wouldn’t that be awesome?
I know that this might sound like the inane ramblings of a teenage English student trying to put in some filler for a project, but come on. How cool would it be to see Michael Keaton put on the getup again and just freak someone out by popping up unexpectedly?
I know I’d laugh.
