So right off the bat this trailer was cobbled together to hype up the question of who will win a fight between Godzilla and King Kong. This has been a match that has been a long time coming once again and people are going to be dying to see how it plays out in the theater in another couple of years. Predictions will start flying since each monster has its own advantages. There will be those that actually take to this down to a serious debate by claiming that one monster is better than the other because of this or vice versa with the other. It’s going to be fun to see the comments roll out as the years go by until the film. So who do you think will win?
Personally I call it a draw since despite the atomic breath of Godzilla, which is formidable, King Kong is just flat out tough and smart enough to stay away from something that can hurt him as much as he can. After all we saw in Kong: Skull Island that he’s been fighting all kinds of creatures for years. Also, that movie took place in the 70’s, while the most recent Godzilla took place in modern times. So if Kong was still a juvenile back in the 70’s he’s had time to grow and time to toughen up in a location where he might be the king, but it’s still necessary for him to remain strong and dominant by beating up on other creatures.
Godzilla for the most part doesn’t really wake until there’s a reason, and Kong might not be a good enough reason, but it’s seeming as though the two are going to clash anyway and the resulting battle will be enough to shake a countryside. There is a matter of the size discrepancy however, since Godzilla is huge, and Kong, while still being massive is like a child next to Godzilla. However, like I said, Kong has had time to grow since his most recent movie was set decades in the past. It’s reasonable to believe that he’s grown a bit and has toughened up quite a bit as well.
There are certain weapons and protections that would sway the battle in Godzilla’s favor though. His enormous tail that he can swing about, his atomic breath, and the fact that he’s armored in scales from head to toe could create a serious problem for Kong. On the other hand, Kong is just flat out savage and has a greater amount of intelligence working for him since he knows how to use various tools and can improvise when he needs to. Godzilla seems to favor straightforward aggression over strategy where Kong can utilize his environment to suit his needs. Remember the fight with the largest skullcrawler? Kong not only used an entire tree as a club, he used the rusted propeller blades of an old ship to wound and then slice the sucker open. His ability to think on his feet could give Godzilla something to think about.
I think either way it should be a good fight, but one thing you can almost count on is that neither monster will be vanquished. They’re both money-makers and can’t afford to be eradicated. It will be an awesome battle though.
