Summer camp was an important staple in a lot of people’s childhoods. Going away to camp for the summer can be a great way to try new things and meet new people. However, summer camp also has a creepy site that has often been featured in scary movies. The CW’s new reality series, Killer Camp has found a way to combine both of those things while also being weirdly entertaining. In the show, 11 strangers will participate in a classic whodunit mystery where they attempt to figure out who ‘killed’ one of their fellow campers. While the premise may be a little cheesy on the surface, it’ll likely be one of those shows you just cant stop watching. Keep reading for 10 things you didn’t know about Killer Camp.
1. Cast Members Initially Think They’re Going On A Different Type Of Show
Everybody loves a good plot twist, and Killer Camp has one that even the cast members won’t see coming. Instead of knowing they’re going on a reality show about summer camp murder mystery, they think they’re going on a generic and light hearted show called Summer Camp.
2. Some Of The ‘Murders’ Will Be Funny
Murder is no laughing matter in real life, but it’s a different story on Killer Camp. At the end of the day, the show is supposed to be fun and funny, so some of the murders will be funny. Although it’ll be sad to see cast members go, at least they’ll be going otu with a bang.
3. The Show Originally Aired On ITV
To the American audience, Killer Camp will seem like an entirely new concept. However, that isn’t entirely true. The show actually originated in the UK. It initially aired last fall on a British network called ITV. The CW purchased the rights to the show so that it could be added to the network’s summer line up.
4. Contestants Are Competing For Cash
Being on Killer Camp definitely looks like a good time, but fun isn’t the only reason people are on the show. Cast members are competing to win a cash prize. Each challenge they win puts them one step closer to the grand prize. However, it’s not entirely clear exactly how much the grand prize will be.
5. The Camp Handy Man Will Be Helping With The ‘Murders’
One cast member will be ‘murdered’ during each episode. However, one of the cast members is also the killer. As you can imagine, it’s tough to pull of a murder when you’re constantly with a group of people. For this reason, the camp handy man will help with some of the murders to make sure the rest of the campers don’t get suspicious.
6. Each Episode Will Have 3 Challenges
The cast members will compete in a series of challenges throughout the season. According to Reality Blurred, the first challenge will earn money for the group pot. Contestants who are left at the end of the season will split the money in the pot. The second challenge will help unlock clues to the killer’s identity. The third challenge will be the most important because the person who wins it won’t will be immune from being ‘killed’.
7. The Host Will Help Decide Who Gets ‘Murdered’
Unlike other shows, cast members won’t be determining which people are placed in the bottom two. Instead, it will be the show’s host, Bobby Mair. Reality Blurred says, “The bottom two are determined like this—one of the two is the person the killer has chosen to remove from camp that evening. The other person was chosen by the producers to be the most dramatic person that could be chosen. In [the case of one of the first two] was considered by some in camp to be acting guiltily so putting [that person] in the bottom 2 felt like it might encourage debate. The person eliminated is always decided by the ‘killer’.”
8.The Show Will Give You Nostalgia
Some of the best scary movies center around summer camp. The purpose of Killer Camp isn’t to actually scare anyone, but it does pay homage to many classic scary movies. If you’re a fan of 80s horror films, Killer Camp will definitely give you plenty of old school vibes.
9. The Host Is Also A Camp Counselor
Bobby Mair is the host of the show. But since summer camps don’t usually have hosts, Bobby will play a more realistic role at the camp. He will also be a camp counselor. However, Bobby certainly isn’t the kind of camp counselor you’ll want to go to when you need something.
10. All Of The Contestants Are From The UK
The concept of the show isn’t the only thing that’s unique about Killer Camp. American viewers will immediately notice that all of the people on the show have British accents. That’s because all of the campers are from all over the UK. However, Bobby Mair is Canadian.
