The Justice League uniting like the Avengers in Infinity War doesn’t seem too likely. But fan trailers seem to make a person think that maybe they should. For as many differences as both teams have gone through, and there have been a lot, it really seems like the Avengers are more well put together than the Justice League. Both groups have members that come and go and are more or less reservists, and both teams are comprised of fairly powerful individuals that have severe ego problems. Batman and Superman for instance can’t seem to get along in the DCEU at the moment for more than part of a movie, and Aquaman is kind of arrogant as well. The Flash is little more than a kid that has social anxiety and Wonder Woman is a character with a slight superiority complex that she comes by naturally since she’s that tough and is an experienced fighter. The Green Lantern, who was omitted, is also a powerful ally but is also kind of conceited and limited at times, while Batman is, well, Batman. Cyborg, Green Arrow, and others that might join the League are kind of like the reservists.
On the Avengers you have a group of people that aren’t quite up to the same measure as a few of the Justice League members, but they’re a lot easier to relate to since they have very human problems and tend to show their weaknesses a lot more. They’re not all super-intelligent, super-rich, or all around super. They have obvious flaws, and that’s a part of why people can relate to them. In a way they make the Justice League look like a bunch of mopey old folks that don’t know why their movie isn’t doing well.
If the DCEU is going to make a comeback they might have to go just a little more raw or perhaps stop trying to match up to anything else. If you think there’s no competition between the MCU and DCEU then you haven’t been watching closely enough. The MCU has been watching the competition and has been smoking them left and right even with its flops. The DCEU on the other hand has had one major film do anything that was expected, and that was last year’s Wonder Woman. With the MCU making a big move this year introducing Infinity War in which a host of superheroes will be featured it seems like the DCEU better step it up a few notches if they really want to avoid getting blown out at the box office yet again.
Maybe it’s time to start introducing some other characters and make good on those rumors of Shazam and Black Adam. Maybe Deathstroke should be the new villain in the next Batman movie, and perhaps they should start expanding their roster just a bit. The MCU is only going to get bigger now that Disney is going to control 21st Century Fox, and you can bet that they’ll be looking to roll out the roster and shake the dust off of it.
