Jude Law Will Play a Young Dumbledore in ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Sequel

There was a time when Jude Law was one of the hottest actors around.  I’m not just speaking from a looks point of view, though women and men adored him (and still do), he was definitely an “it” actor once upon a time.  I’d say from around 1996-2004 there weren’t too many actors higher up there than Jude Law.  Once Alfie was over it felt like Law went on a hiatus until Sherlock Holmes effectively revitalized his career.  Don’t get me wrong, from 2004-2009 he appeared in numerous movies but I’ll bet you can’t name one unless you look at his IMDB profile.

Personally I’m psyched that Law’s back in the fold.  An don’t forget, Law is only 45 years old so he’s got plenty of room to run here.  As far as being a leading man, I think those days might be over but watch out for Jude Law entering the Harry Potter universe!  According to The Wrap

Jude Law has been cast to play the young Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming “Fantastic Beasts” sequel, Warner Bros. announced Wednesday. Law will portray Dumbledore long before he became the Headmaster at Hogwarts, when he was still serving as the wizarding school’s Transfiguration professor. J.K. Rowling previously hinted that Dumbledore will be openly gay in the sequel. “As far as his sexuality is concerned — watch this space,” she said in November.

Photography on the film will begin in the summer and David Yates will be behind the camera again.

“As fans ourselves, we are thrilled to have Jude Law joining the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ cast, playing a character so universally adored. Jude has been a member of the Warner Bros. family for years and we’re excited to embark on this new adventure with him,” said Toby Emmerich, President and Chief Content Officer at Warner Bros.

Yates added, “Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I have long admired, and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him. I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life.”
