Jimmy Fallon and Chris Martin Cover David Bowie’s “Life on Mars?”

Jimmy Fallon

Anyone who watches The Tonight Show already knows that Jimmy Fallon is excellent at impersonating different musicians and singers, and many of the times, his impressions of these famous artists are funny. However, there’s nothing goofy about the recent cover that Fallon did with Coldplay’s Chris Martin. The duo performed David Bowie’s “Life on Mars?” and while Fallon was certainly trying to emulate the late, great musician, it was a respectful tribute rather than a wacky sketch.

The video begins with Fallon “running in” to Martin backstage at The Tonight Show. Martin sits at the piano, playing a couple of notes, and when Fallon asks him what he is working on, the Coldplay frontman immediately begins playing “Life on Mars?”

The duo perform the song together, with Martin playing piano while Fallon sings. After the two of them finish performing, they go back to the conversation they had been having before, acting like nothing just happened.

“Well, you keep working on it,” Fallon says to Martin at the end of the video before walking awa.

Watch Jimmy Fallon and Chris Martin perform “Life on Mars?” in the video below and comment your thoughts on their performance. Did you enjoy Jimmy Fallon’s vocals? Do you wish Chris Martin had actually sung during the song? And most importantly, do you think the pair did a good job of honoring David Bowie?
