Jennifer Hyatt Tedmori: Whatever Happened To The Nickelodeon Child Actor?

Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide alum Doris Hyatt Tedmori reignited conversations about her Hollywood career after revealing the residual payments she recently received from her days on the Nickelodeon live-action sitcom. Taking to Instagram, she divulged the paltry amount she receives annually from reruns. Tedmori thinks it’s absurd that the production companies she worked with still go through the trouble of sending her checks worth less than a cent in some instances.

The former child actor began her acting career in musical theater and gained mainstream recognition as Doris Trembly of the “Huge Crew” in the Scott Fellows sitcom. Doris Hyatt Tedmori played the character in 11 episodes and then appeared in two episodes of The CW’s teen drama 90210. That was in 2008. She disappeared from the industry thereafter. Here’s a breakdown of what happened.

Jennifer Hyatt Tedmori Faced A Difficult Start In Hollywood

The Ned’s Declassified actress fell in love with acting as a child. She grew up in musical theater and wanted nothing more than to act professionally. But then, she grappled with ADHD and was on-and-off medications to manage the condition. Jennifer Hyatt Tedmori was socially awkward, struggled with communication, and often found herself blurting out uncomfortable things to people.

She got her start in 2004, when she was cast as a bully in the Nickelodeon series. But then, what was meant to be her stepping stone became a rough start that left her struggling to navigate the industry. With the role labeling her as “huge,” she developed body dysmorphia, which further complicated her situation.

“I’ve always kind of been told by agents and managers at that point, before I went on Neds, that I was never going to be pretty enough to be a feature or lead,” she divulged in a 2023 podcast. “I had to be comfortable being the quirky ugly girl or the fat friend,” added the former child actor. All of these ultimately destroyed her self-worth, making it difficult to build a career in Hollywood.

Ned’s Declassified Deepened Her Struggles And Drove Her From Hollywood

While Jennifer Hyatt Tedmori was already dealing with body dysmorphia before Ned’s Declassified, it worsened during her time on the show. This eventually led to her decision to leave the industry. She told her costars that being called “the huge crew” on the show “fu**ed me up.” She didn’t know how to separate herself from the character she was playing. This intensified her perceived flaws in her appearance, so she isolated herself from the rest of the cast.

Even though Tedmori was always excited to perform, she felt uncomfortable with the role. She described her time on the show as a dark moment that saw her develop an eating disorder on set. Her condition deteriorated when she didn’t return for Season 3. At some point, the Doris Trembly actress was taking as many as 60 pills a day in a desperate attempt to treat her eating disorder.

Jennifer Hyatt Tedmori recalled she would be auditioning for roles and “have full-on mental breakdowns [because] she was afraid she’d be called fat and ugly.” This inspired the decision to leave Hollywood, and it took staying away from the industry to realize she could love herself and her body. Tedmori claims her life turned around when she went to law school.

Jennifer Hyatt Tedmori Left Acting To Pursue A Career In Corporate Law

The Ned’s Declassified actress is now a lawyer. With her negative experiences pursuing acting, she hit a breaking point, where auditions felt like she was torturing herself. So for a change, she decided to attend Cal State Long Beach, where she studied to become a lawyer. She described this as the best thing she did for her mental health in terms of loving herself and rediscovering her self-confidence.

“Law school completely changed my brain and my outlook on life,” she told Ned’s Declassified Podcast Survival Guide in November 2023. “I became so confident internally and in my head, I was like, ‘I don’t care what I look like anymore.'” After spending three years in law school, Jennifer Hyatt Tedmori worked for a major league baseball team for over six years. She now works in sports and entertainment as a corporate lawyer.

While acting will always be her first love, Tedmori’s professional acting days are over. Her last known role was in 2008, when she appeared in two episodes of 90210. She attempted a comeback in 2021 when she starred in Ron Rogge’s short film Devil’s Gunman, but now devotes her time to her law career as a solo practitioner.
