10 Things You Didn’t Know about Jennifer Grant

Those who would assume that the children of famous celebrities would either follow in their parents’ footsteps or find another way to stand out in life, and in some cases they’d be correct. Jennifer Grant, however, did try to step into the same profession as her famous parents, but has never quite achieved the same level of renown. It doesn’t have as much to do with her acting ability as it is that she just hasn’t been given many opportunities. She’s been in a number of TV shows and lesser-known movies throughout the years, but overall she’s done a great deal in her life to be proud of, rather than being just a legacy given to the world by her father. After his passing, she did manage to find a way to live comfortably, despite her grief, but as far as being famous, she is still a person of note, but not quite a major celebrity remembered by many.

Here are a few things you may not have known about her.

10. She’s the daughter of Cary Grant and Dyan Cannon.

With that kind of parentage, many people might assume that she would one day take after her parents and hit the stage running. The only problem with this assumption is that it fails to consider that through the genetic process, a person is not their parent and can thus make vastly different decisions as to what they want to do.

9. Her father didn’t want her to become an actress at first.

For whatever reason, Grant was initially opposed to his daughter’s ambition of becoming an actress and attempted to dissuade her from it. Nevertheless, after a few different jobs, she still managed to make her way to the cameras, much to her father’s disappointment.

8. She had a couple of jobs before becoming an actress.

Jennifer worked for a law firm, she was a chef, and had a few other smaller jobs before attending college, something her father insisted upon as she so desperately wanted to act that she could taste it. But perhaps this was to demonstrate to her that there was more to life than just acting.

7. She graduated from Stanford.

Jennifer is a well-educated woman who managed to make a good life for herself before turning to acting. Perhaps her father lightened up a bit due to this, as Cary Grant had seen the best and the worst of Hollywood and he likely wanted to spare his daughter from the latter.

6. Her father’s passing was very hard on her.

In many of the quotes she’s given and the interviews she’s had, Jennifer speaks a great deal about her father and what he meant to her during the years he was still around. He was already in his sixties when she was born, and he passed away in the late 1980s.

5. She had a recurring role on Beverly Hills 90210.

If you noticed anyone other than the main actors, then it’s possible you saw her as she was a recurring character who appeared time and again. This was one of the most popular shows of its time, launching many careers during its run.

4. Her career started in 1993.

No doubt her father’s passing in 1986 kept her from entering show business for long enough to make her consider a career elsewhere. Her desire to act certainly continued to drive her on, although one has to ponder whether it was simpler or more challenging after her father’s passing.

3. She hasn’t done a whole lot with her career.

She’s had a successful list of movie and TV show appearances, but given that she’s been in the industry since the early 90s, you’d almost expect more from someone who was so passionate about acting when they were younger. Perhaps growing up and maturing made her realize that there was more to life than just acting.

2. She inherited half of her father’s estate when he passed.

Her stepmother, with whom she had been on good terms for many years, was given the other half. Considering the worth of Cary Grant in those days, there is no doubt that her inheritance allowed her to live quite comfortably and even aided her in her journey towards becoming an actress.

1. She’s an only child.

This can be quite difficult and even damaging to the relationship between a parent and child, since children can become quite spoiled in such cases. However, it is also very possible to give your child the attention they need and to teach them in a more direct fashion what is expected of them and how they are to behave within society. There are both advantages and disadvantages to this approach, just like with anything else. It would be interesting to see how this approach makes an impact on one of the newer shows that have come out.
