The new trailer for season eight of Game Of Thrones has just been released, and as expected it has got fans excited about what the final season of the show could bring. Virtually all of the major characters in the show feature in the trailer, some more than others but nothing is given away about who will eventually sit on the Iron Throne. The new season is due to start on April 14 and it will be the longest yet in terms of screen time. Some of the most revealing things that we have learned from the trailer are discussed below.
There Will Be A Battle At Winterfell
While it is not clear if it is the final battle, there will be a fight of some kind that takes place at Winterfell. Arya is involved in this somehow and it looks as if she will be fighting the White Walkers as the weapon in her hand is not Needle, but instead looks as if it is made from dragon glass.
Cersai Is Still Looking Out For Herself
Cersai made her intentions clear at the end of season seven when she went back on her word to provide an army to fight the Night King. Her plan to go against whoever wins the battle between the living and the dead with a full strength army seems to involve using the services of Euron Greyjoy and the Golden Company.
Beric And Tormund Are Still Alive
At the end of season seven Beric and Tormund were on the wall when it was attacked by the Night King and his resurrected dragon. This left fans worried about their fate as the wall at Eastwatch was almost completely destroyed. However, they both appear together in the trailer and so must have gotten away somehow.
Jon And Daenerys Visit Someone In The Stark Crypt
We see a scene where Jon and Daenerys are in the Stark crypt but we don’t know who they are paying a visit to. The fact that they are still acting like a couple may mean that they don’t know the truth about Jon’s parentage yet and so it could be Ned they are visiting rather than Lyanna.
The Final Battle Involves Fire
It is quite difficult to see what exactly is going on in the final battle because it is dark and there appears to be several things that are on fire. Fire is one of the only things that can killed white walkers and so it was always going to be involved somewhere. While the location is not confirmed as Winterfell in the trailer, if it is there may not be much of the Stark home left when the battle is over.
Jon Visits The Weirwood Tree
The Weirwood tree has always been important to the Stark family and so it would make sense that Jon would visit it for a bit of quiet reflection. Ned used to do the same before a battle to collect his thoughts and so it is possible that Jon is doing the same.
Jaime Is On The Side Of The Living
Cersai has had a hold over Jaime from the beginning of the show and he has always stood by her, even when he didn’t agree with the things that she was doing. However, it finally looks as if their relationship could be coming to an end as Jaime is clearly going to be against her when the battle does come.
Where Is Tyrion?
There is only one shot of Tyrion in the whole of the trailer and he appears to be alone on a beach. He is still wearing the brooch that makes him Hand Of The Queen and so he is likely to be allied with Jon and Daenerys still. It is possible that he is in Kings Landing to try to appeal to Cersai one more time.
Jon And Daenerys Ride A Dragon
Since the fact that Jon is a Targaryen was revealed, fans have been waiting for him to ride on a dragon. This is not actually shown in the trailer but they are seen walking towards the dragons looking determined and so this gives real hope that seeing them riding a dragon each is something that fans have to look forward to.
