The Masked Singer seems like another way to have fun with celebrities but the lengths the production team goes to in order to keep the identity of the celebrities’ identities hidden is just kind of nuts. It’s understandable to keep the show interesting since if someone slips and reveals it then the whole thing is kind of pointless. But there are ways you would think that people might be known any way since when it comes to the way that people talk, the way they walk, and just their bodily dimensions in some case, there would be ways to tell. But seeing as how the producers do what they can to make it as hard as possible it’s still kind of difficult. The outfits they dress the celebrities up in, the masks, and even the baggy and bulky clothing is less revealing than a nun’s habit in many ways and makes it nearly impossible for even the hosts and the judges to figure out just who’s who to be honest.
There are a few things that some folks might use to dispute the absolute veracity of the show however since the idea that a lot of celebrities would come on this show and not demand certain things as many celebrities are known to do seems kind of hard to imagine. Those little quirks alone might tip someone off as to who they are, or the way someone speaks, even with their voice being altered, might be an indication. There’s always more than one way to tell who’s who, but if you don’t know who’s supposed to be on the show anyway, from a viewer standpoint, then it’s very likely that you’re going to be surprised unless you just happen to know your favorite celebrities that much. For instance it seems like the much bigger celebrities say like Shaquille O’Neal might be hard to mistake for anyone else since there aren’t a lot of people in show business that are his size. In fact if you watch the video on how they go about masking their celebrities one of them sounds a lot like Kevin Hart despite the voice alteration.
But it is a good bit of fun that allows the celebrities to strut their stuff on stage in front of people that are completely blown away by the costumes, masks, and are wondering just who in the world could be underneath them. Apparently when they’re backstage the masks stay on the whole time, save for when they need to eat apparently, and even then they’re kept in seclusion away from anyone that might see them on the show. Even the celebrities don’t know who’s going to be on the show. While there might be a list somewhere, presumably with the producers and no one else, detailing who will be on the show and what needs they might have in terms of diet, accommodations, and so on and so forth, it would seem the that everything is tight-lipped and the only people that know who’s under the mask are the people that need to.
The actors actually do wear sweatshirts that say “Don’t Talk To Me” before they go in since it would seem that they haven’t received any voice modulator at that point and it might be very easy to tell who they are and ruin the surprise. Even those family members that come with them, if any do, have to wear masks the entire time and be completely anonymous for the duration of the show. On top of that, the live audience are given forms to fill out detailing just what is expected of them and that by no means is anyone allowed to ruin the surprise. You don’t consent to fill out the forms, you don’t get to be a part of the audience. Also, there’s no electronics allowed at all within the studio, as people have become notorious for leaking certain information to the internet where, as we all know by now, it’s going to stay for a long time to come.
But all in all this show seems like something fun and engaging to watch and perhaps a nice big surprise at the end when you get to find out just who’s behind the mask and whether or not you were starting to make the right, educated guess. It’ll be interesting to see who gets unmasked when the show reaches its finale on Feb. 27th since at this point people are still guessing and still can’t quite figure out just who might be behind the outfits. This is a testament to those that know just how their favorite celebrities move and sound even when their voice is being altered, and a lot of fun for those that haven’t got a clue. It’s definitely worth watching at least once.
