Hulu and Jessica Biel have teamed up together to bring fans a new series, and there are a few questions floating around about it. How many Candy episodes are there is perhaps the biggest question. Hulu debuted the true crime miniseries/documentary earlier in the summer of 2022, starring Jessica Biel as Candy, and fans want to know all the things there are to know about this project and its star. Before we talk about the number of Candy episodes, let’s talk about Biel’s role as she stars in this new project.

What Are the Candy Episodes About?

Candy Montgomery. Do you know the name? You might, but you might not. The story was huge in the 1980s, and some want to continue talking about it. In 1980, Candy Montgomery was accused of murder. It was said she killed her best friend. Her best friend was Betty Gore, and the story continues to haunt people. This miniseries stars the famous 7th Heaven actress as the accused murderer, and it tells the story of how Gore died, what happened, and the details surrounding this historic case.

The Betty Gore Murder

Betty Gore was a married woman. She was young, she was in love with her husband, and she was a new mom to two kids. She struggled a bit as a new mom, however. She was a teacher who met and married her husband in college. By the time their second baby was born, she was struggling with what we now know as post-partum depression. She was unhappy, but she was dealing with it. Her husband regularly traveled for work. One day, he called his wife. She didn’t answer, but it was not unusual. She was one who liked to keep busy with the kids, so he figured she was out. When he could not reach his wife all day and into the evening, he began to worry. He called a neighbor to check.

What happened next was a horror movie plot coming to life. The neighbor found Betty Gore dead in the same house her youngest baby was in. The baby was, thankfully, alive and well and in her crib. Gore, on the other hand, was mutilated beyond recognition. She’d been, essentially, chopped up with an axe. She was hit with the axe blade more than 40 times, and many pieces of her body were unrecognizable. It came to light that the last person who saw Gore alive was her friend Candy Montgomery. Candy had Gore’s oldest daughter for a sleepover, and she allegedly went to the house to get a swimsuit for the little girl and then left.

Did Candy Montgomery Kill Betty Gore?

Candy Montgomery denied killing her friend. However, it was later revealed she did kill Betty Gore. In the Candy episodes, you will see that Candy and Betty Gore’s widowed husband admitted they’d carried on an extramarital affair. Candy also admitted that her friend called her over to her home and confronted her about the affair. Montgomery claims that her friend picked up the axe and threatened to kill her, so she acted in self-defense. Without giving anything away, we will tell you that in each of the Candy episodes, Jessica Biel plays a chilling character. The true-life miniseries documentary is something that really did happen. Biel is outstanding in her role as an accused killer.

Did Biel Meet Candy Montgomery?

As far as figuring out how to play this role, Jessica Biel didn’t have the easiest time. Candy was, for all intents and purposes, a pretty regular mom most of her life. Even when she was engaging in an extramarital affair with the husband of her best friend, she was doing so out of her own personal loneliness or other reasons. She was doing something wrong, but she wasn’t a bad person…she was making a mistake. Biel did reach out for a conversation with Candy.

“For 90 percent of their lives, they lived these very normal, suburban lives, and then boom, this crazy thing happened. She had to be beloved and likable and nice and kind and someone that you can really get behind, and then after this crazy thing happens, I still you to weirdly be behind her,” said Biel of becoming a killer. “Everything that we did, it was taken from the court documents, so we were really trying to be very true to her real story,” she said after it was made very clear that Candy was uninterested in talking to Biel or taking any part in this project.
