Cougar Town
Zoe Hart wants a little romance. Although having a physical relationship with Wade has been fun and a nice change of pace for the commitment-loving doctor, there’s a decided lack of intimate gestures these days. However, I think that what happened tonight on Hart of Dixie wasn’t exactly what she thought of when she mentioned that to the bartender.
While teaching new intern Rose how to use the phones at the office, Dr. Hart finds out that there’s a bad case of athlete’s foot going around the high school football team and the big game is only days away. The team includes Rose’s latest crush, star kicker Max Burgess – the two have been to lunch three times in the past week and with his girlfriend moving to Montana, Rose might be able to land herself a boyfriend. When Zoe goes to treat the team, she spots a down-and-out Max obviously still reeling from the break-up. After offering him a little advice, though, he becomes infatuated with her, setting up a flash mob at the Rammer Jammer to the rune of “A Bad Case of Loving You” that ends with him giving her a bouquet. While Wade loves it, Dr. Hart is horrified, particularly due to it hurting Rose, but she can’t do anything to stop it – Max got his kicking mojo back and the town knows about Zoe being the reason for the turnaround.
Max finds her later that evening and asks her out on a date to the Rammer Jammer – she tries to get out of it, but Wade accepts for her. At the Rammer Jammer, the two are looked upon by the entire town as they dine, Zoe with a blue corsage and Brick sending free drinks to the table. Max can’t stop complimenting her and tries to hold her hand on the way out, eventually asking her to the victory bon fire tomorrow before she confesses the real reason she accepted the date. Zoe does try to make it right the next day by going to the locker room; right before the game kicked off, Max had decided not to play…until she told him how brave she found going after an older woman/dancing in public to be and that he’d make some girl very happy one day. He snaps out of it, kicks the game-winning field goal, and invites Rose to the victory party instead.
Meanwhile, Wade asks Wanda about romantic gestures and she tells him that it’s not the result but the intention that matters; Wade then goes to bake Zoe black-and-white cookies after having eaten her last one, sent by her mother from home, the previous day. They’re expectedly awful, but it’s the thought that counts.
AnnaBeth’s
Now that the election is over, Lemon needs to find a career path and she might have an idea, informing AnnaBeth of a plan to get the two of them into the catering business. They had ran a lemonade stand together when they were kids and with each at a crossroads in their life, it could be the thing to help them get back out into the world. However, AnnaBeth brushes the idea off due to the bad economy, which turns out to be a lie; Lemon runs into George Tucker, who mentions that AnnaBeth is starting up a catering business and had been hired by him to help throw a birthday party for a local judge. Lemon, of course, doesn’t handle the news well and has a little tiff with AnnaBeth over the perceived slight against their friendship.
Now’s not the time, though, since AnnaBeth is having a hard time with the time management/preparation aspect of the party, leading to George to ask Lemon to help out due to her being the “Babe Ruth of party planning.” If the party goes well, the judge would be in George’s corner at trial and could swing verdicts his way, which would help his career and therefore, his wallet. Ultimately, she agrees and goes for a Cyrano-type presence at the party; Lemon dictates her whims through Crickett, including a change of flower color, only to come out from the shadows and take control from an increasingly irritated AnnaBeth. The latter tells Lemon that the real reason that she didn’t want to go into business with her is due to often feeling steamrolled by her and bad memories of the lemonade stand.
The party, though, goes extremely well and George couldn’t be happier. He does try to help AnnaBeth and Lemon with their squabble, telling the former that she can cook (but can’t do “boss-type” things) and vice versa for the latter, in a bid to show them they need one another. The two decide to go through with it and find George later that day to draft the business agreement, picking the name AnnaBeth’s for their company.
Forgive or Forget
Lavon and Ruby are getting reacquainted mighty quickly, as she’s already staying over at his house and the two can’t keep their hands off of one another. With the election behind them and the past forgiven on both sides, it looks like a smooth ride to commitment – until Ruby’s grandfather gets in the way. After catching them kissing in front of his house, the veteran turns on the hose and intentionally ruins Lavon’s new suede shoes. While cleaning off at the house, he explains that he used to have a good relationship with Ruby’s grandfather back when he was in high school and that he wants them to get back to that; Lavon can’t handle anybody not liking him, especially a girlfriend’s relative, and he decides to bring biscuits to a planned meal in order to win the man over.
However, the meal doesn’t go over well, with Ruby’s grandfather talking down on Lavon’s mayoral style, football career, and biscuits that he brought, which came from his mother’s recipe. Lavon allows himself to be upset and throws the veteran out of the house, only to go over the next day to mend fences. Ruby’s grandfather tells him that he’ll forgive Lavon for what happened with Ruby when they were kids if he’ll do some chores for him, i.e. chop up a downed tree into firewood, unclog the septic tank, etc. Lavon agrees, only to find out that Ruby’s grandfather had long forgiven him for leaving his granddaughter – he just didn’t want to do anything on the chore list and figured he’d get Lavon to do it instead. The only thing that he does mention is that he doesn’t want ambitious Ruby to be tied down in BlueBell, which Lavon asks about later. Ruby, in turn, tells him that if she didn’t want to be in BlueBell, she would have left town and that it holds the one thing she couldn’t find in Atlanta: love.

-Wade watches Pepe LePew. And buys glow-in-the-dark panties for girlfriends. Of course.
-BlueBell apparently didn’t catch Bieber Fever.
