Is Hallmark Movie, “Eat, Play, Love” Worth a Watch?

The Hallmark cable television network has developed a reputation for presenting some riveting and heartfelt feel-good movies, and it was their hopes that “Eat, Play, Love” would be another awesome feel-good movie on their growing list. The movie recently premiered on the network and everyone is asking if they should chase it down and watch it. Well, that all depends. No movie regardless of how well it is written directed and acted out is for everyone. But, if you are a person who loves a good love flick, or something that warms your heart, this is likely a good movie that you will want to see.

The revolves around Veterinarian, Dr. Carly Monroe, who falls head over heals for the guy who runs the local animal shelter. If you have guessed that things are far more complex than they really seem, then you are a veteran who knows how these types of films have to go. First, there is the girl who likes the guy, but they guy is otherwise occupied by someone else who really does not deserve him or who is not really in love with. So, life has to present the right opportunities over the course a lot of seemingly unrelated incidents in order to convince this man of where his heart really lies.

This is exactly what happens in this movie. While you may be thinking that the predictability of the film diminishes its impact, but it does not. That is the interesting phenomenon surrounding the “feel-good” mechanism. You know before the movie starts that the protagonist is going to get their prize. The joy of the film is taking the journey with them while they do it.

Dr. Monroe falls in love with the owner of the shelter, Dan, who just happens to be engaged to a glamorous Hollywood actor (they actually make this believable). When it seems that Dan is going to sell the shelter and move away to marry his TV personality girlfriend, his sister decides that it is time for her to take matters into her own hands.

I will not spoil how the movie plays out, but I will tell you that this is the quintessential feel-good flick. There are a few twists and turns that will keep you shock and surprise me viewers on the edge of your seat. For me, it was more of an escape away from the constant grind and realities long enough to be reminded of what is important in life. We often get caught up in going after things and causes us to miss the ones who are most important to us.

Things without someone to share them with become old and empty amazingly quick. This is a reminder of the importance of being grateful for the things in your life that matter – slowing down long enough to develop an appreciation for the simple things in life that have the greatest gravity in the sustainment of our happiness, contentment, and peace. While this movie is simple, it definitely has substance and it may likely become one of your favorites.
