Guy Narrates Himself Walking Backwards Away From A Grizzly Bear And Her Cubs

Mankind and nature don’t always see eye to eye, but that doesn’t mean that each and every meeting has to be a violent one. Take this clip below for instance. A man out walking a trail away from his campsite happens to stumble across a mother grizzly and her two cubs. Now normally one might think this is the time time to hit the panic button and start running. That would probably be the worst thing you could do however and there are a few reasons why. But taking the  time to commentate on it and film the entire thing just adds another layer of difficulty to the situation that would leave some people questioning this guy’s intelligence.

So why in the world would anyone worry over filming a scene such as this when the best idea is to just back away and keep backing away while making as little noise as possible?

It could be that he wanted someone to find the recorder if something unfortunate did happen.

It’s almost like writing an electronic will except it’d be a last testament and documentary really. If anyone came along and found a man chewed to death by a bear it would be nice to know just what happened. Of course that’s banking a lot on the fact that the recorder, be it a handheld recorder, a phone, or even a helmet cam, wouldn’t be crushed, torn to pieces, or otherwise damaged.

If you’re walking backwards the last thing you should be worrying about is keeping the bears in the shot.

This of course kind of supports the idea that the guy had the camera affixed to a part of his body if he was able to actually make certain that he wasn’t stumbling. It nixes the idea that it’s a helmet cam because otherwise the view would change periodically. But still, if you’re that worried about stumbling stop recording and make sure of your footing. The bears aren’t going to tell you to look out for that root or the next rise in the path. They’re probably counting on you to stumble.

Get back to camp and let the bears wander off.

Stop filming them. Stop reminding them that you’re there. Wait until they’re a good distance off and then break out the camera again. People that do this kind of thing are irritating solely for the reason that they don’t seem to understand when enough is enough. You survived an ordeal that could have gone so much worse than it did. We get it, you probably soiled yourself thinking about what might happen if you stumbled. But you got back to campy okay, you didn’t have an issue with the bears after that. Stop letting them know you’re still there. Chances are with her cubs the mom will move off, but don’t make it tempting for her to changer her mind.

One note to all those people out there that agree that nature is beautiful and wondrous. It’s also quite violent when it wants to be and doesn’t care about our place in the world. If you’re perceived as a threat then there’s not much you can do. Thankfully for this guy he was a simple curiosity.
