Grey’s Anatomy Questions: Are People Innately Evil?

Grey's Anatomy

Following up on last week, Jo’s abusive ex is involved in a hit and run. Jo and Alex have and alibi they were home, they got a call to come in. Jo suspects Jenny might have had something to do with this but no, she doesn’t. Who was it? Was this Karma taking the wheel and lending a hand? It was a drunk driver, but maybe Karma did have something to do with it.

Regardless, while Paul is being evaluated, Jo and Jenny get to talking and Jenny finally realizes that she isn’t doing herself any favors by staying with Paul. That the abuse isn’t her fault. They decide that they are going to go at this together and press charges. Before any of that can happen though, Paul’s anger lets out but the concussion causes him to hit his head again and get his death sentence.

With the second concussion, he’s never going to come out of the coma and they need to decide to pull his life support or not. However, Jenny isn’t the one that get’s that call… No Jo is still legally his wife and she get’s to make the call. She gets to end this once and for all. Naturally this leads her to laugh at the irony of the situation but eventually she comes up with the perfect solution. Donate all his organs to people that need them.

As the two women watch, the idea of if someone is innately evil comes up. Will donating an ‘evil’ kidney condemn the little girl that receives it? Can people be redeemed? Can someone who is bad do good in their lives?

Yes they can. Evil isn’t born it’s made. No one is 100% evil. There is good in everyone — some more than others. Regardless of how much good there is, there is some there so no the kidney will not condemn that little girl. Paul may have been an abusive ass while he was alive, but his death can be used to do good in the world. A lot of people will get the second chance they’ve been waiting for and chances are there are a lot of good people doing great things in that bunch.

How he got to where he did, why he abused his girlfriends to the extent that he did? What sick pleasure he got out of this? Are questions that remain unanswered but knowing that he will not be around to keep these women from going out there and doing their absolute best is all they need right now. Jo can finally go out and put her name and picture on papers that are published. She can be seen for a great surgeon without the worry about being found. Jenny can go back to being the woman she once was — kudos to Bethany Joy Lenz for this role though, she did a great job. Paul will not be haunting them anymore.
