Great Uses of Songs in Movies: Journey’s “Only the Young” in “Vision Quest”

I’ve already been very clear about how strongly I feel about the movie Vision Quest.  It’s one of my favorite movies of all-time and should be on anyone’s list who hasn’t seen it yet.  The movie not only contains one of my favorite motivational scenes in any film (the “it ain’t the six minutes, it’s what happens in that six minutes” scene), an appearance by Madonna, one of my top five favorite uses of a song in any movie (Lunatic Fringe by Red Rider) but it’s also got one of the best sports movie villains as well as an appearance of a Tulane sweatshirt (my Alma Matter) worn by none other than the great Harold Sylvester.

As if all of this isn’t good enough, the movie is about wrestling and they happen to capture the sport quite well.  Plus the good looking guy Jake from 16 Candles plays a guy with a mohawk who actually coins the phrase “Vision Quest” in the movie.  Oh and yeah, another fantastic use of music in the movie would have to go to the use of the song “Only the Young” by Journey.

So yeah,  I kind of like this film and everything about it.
