I really don’t know where to begin with tonight’s Gossip Girl. While I got the whole After School Special theme of the week (which was trust, kids!) and Katie Cassidy just shined tonight, I still couldn’t help coming off a little jaded by the end of the hour. With that said, I will say that the STD bomb was hilarious as hell and a good shoe horn for Juliet’s whole Operation: Take Down Serena story line.
Juliet’s feeling the pressure from her “brother” Ben, who I still wonder whether or not we have seen him before, or heard of him in an off-hand manner. The guy is gung-ho on taking Serena down and doesn’t want any distractions on Juliet’s part. While Juliet is falling for Nate pretty damn hard, she did manage to almost bring Serena to her knees, but poor Vanessa became the latest victim in Juliet’s scheme. Serena might think that she has a new friend in Juliet, but something tells me that Blair is not convinced at all. At. All.
Speaking of Vanessa… A little rant right quick. I don’t understand everyone’s hatred for this girl. No, you can’t use the whole “she’s useless and boring” motif, because it’s as dated as a pair of ’09 Jimmy Choo shoes. She was a main character in the books, so it would make sense to have her in the show, and if she wasn’t there now, Dan would be with some stunt name guest star, who we know he wouldn’t remain with. She’s anti-bougie, which is the entire point of her character. So please direct some of that hate and animosity to Blair Waldorf for a change? Seriously, she needs it.
I’m still Team Chuck Bass and I hope he brings Blair down to her knees. She wouldn’t have to worry about “minions” (God, that’s so damn juvenile that it’s not even funny anymore) double crossing her if she respected them for once as human beings and not dolls to be played with. That’s the problem with Blair, she has no respect for the common man and needs to be humbled as much as possible. I don’t see how anyone could feel bad for her after all the hell she’s caused since the show has been on the air. She’s finally getting her karma abundance in the form of Chuck Bass, which, if you ask me, is three and a half seasons overdue and is being delivered by the right person. Why? Because he’s her equal in every since of the word. A friend wondered why people are forgetting that Chuck is a rapist, harking back to the pilot episode where Chuck tried to force himself on both Jenny and Serena. Well, Chuck has been broken many times over and he’s a changed person. He’s been humbled. He’s been redeemed, and that’s why he’s kicking ass and taking names. Now Blair is not completely evil, but damn it’s really hard to feel sorry for her at times. She needs to be put in her place for once and just take the constructive criticism without retaliation.
Dan needs to understand Vanessa’s reasoning for not trusting him about Serena, because for one, he’s giving her reasons not to. Secondly, he actually was hoping to see where Serena’s head was while she was in Paris and even got mad at Nate for intervening. I would buy his disappointment in Vanessa, if he didn’t leave breadcrumbs of evidence to prove otherwise.
While Serena has someone trying to kill her social career, she met a new guy, who seems like Trip Vanderbilt, Chuck and Carter Baizen all rolled into one. I wonder how long will Serena be in love with this one before disaster strikes?
Next week heralds the return of Jenny Humphrey to the Upper East Side, which means three things 1) Insurance claims on the damage she may cause should be on standby to be processed, 2) Blair will be “embarrassed” for once (hopefully) and 3) Eric will have something to do than follow Rufus around.
What did you guys think this week of the shenanigans of the Upper East Side?

Your logic makes sense. Yours is a fresh voice. Okay, I'm willing to open the playing field again.
Watch the first three an a half seasons of the show and how Blair manipulated, schemed, bullied, and went after people out of spite and then get back to me. I DON'T hate Blair, she's this generations Alexis Colby. The problem is that you cannot go through life treating people the way Blair does and think you will get away with it. It just doesn't work that way.
Okay, I gotta say that I see your point. But I still want to see Chair re-unite.
I'm just willing to give you points for helping me to see the other side of Blair-loyalty. But I don't think Chair fan = bias. Just hopeless romantic and wishful that there's still redemption and happiness on the other side for both… once they've both grown out of their childhood phases.
I agree with you as well, ladychrys. It took me a long time to get used to "Chair", but I can say that I am a fan now, just not a die-hard fan to the point that I don't add up the facts on whose wrong in the couples' latest tiff. Both are to blame and both need to grow up as you said, I just don't understand the whole "But Blair is innocent!" sentiment going on, when you have to blame her for some of the reason why Chuck is gunning for her ass.
Great episode. I loved that scene where Blair tries to bribe Ms. Chamberlin with the pie – hilarious (you can watch it at http://vimeo.com/15786495).
also thought it was cool they used the song “Bambi” by Tokyo Police Club

I want to make babies with this review.
Dan is a douche bag who wouldn't deserve Vanessa even if he sacrificed some sort of appendage for her.
You're definitely right that Vanessa has EVERY reason to be insecure. Not only did Dan cheat on her in the first place, but then he was the worst. boyfriend. EVER in 4×04 with Serena AGAIN. I have never understood the Vanessa hate, either, because she's one of my top three favorite characters, but the hate for her in this episode? It truly reaches new levels of stupidity.
I agree with everything you said about Blair, as well. She is not some innocent lamb and she doles it out as much as she gets it, so I say bring it on. She needs to be taken down a peg or two!
As for Serena and Colin, it's exactly like Tripp! She even met him at a bar! haha. Oh boy, can't wait til she comes to her sense and realizes that Nate's been the only guy in her life who's ever accepted her for exactly who she is.
Anywho, great review.
Thank you on all fronts! Nate and Serena were my favorite couple last year, despite the drama slung their way.
I'm not against Blair getting her comeuppance.
However, I am against it if it's in the form of Jenny Humphrey making any kind of public spectacle about her having sex with Chuck. It's one thing that Chuck was choosing to have sex with Jenny; he's had sex with practically everyone, and when he's down like he was, he's just in a downward spiral. I get that. What I didn't get and still don't get, is Jenny, no matter how down she was, choosing to have sex with Chuck, someone who previously had tried to force himself upon her. Even if it is to get revenge on Blair, embarras Blair, whatever, I don't get making that public.
Jenny needs therapy, as does pretty much everyone on this show, except Vanessa. That's what I have a problem with. The writers haven't fully explained to me why Jenny chose to do such a thing from her perspective, and unless she can discuss it on a level that's not some public display of embarrassment for herself or Blair, it's going to ring hollow and absolutely disgusting to me.
I'm cosigning this comment with abundance. I agree on all points. 100%. While I still feel as if Blair's utter disgust of Jenny is unfounded granted how many call girls Chuck has had in his life, I feel that Jenny needs therapy, electroshock or some 1-on-1, and she needs a clue. If she does embarrass Blair in public, it totally goes against her exit last year. With that said, maybe she's doing it as payback for Blair "banishing" her. I'm sorry, but I hurled a shoe at Blair's face when she called herself doing that last year, just for the sheer audacity that she thinks she can banish *anyone*. I sure as hell would try to find anything to take Blair down after that public debacle.
My love/hate for Blair Waldorf is a complex relationship, you all, so I apologize if I come off as a bit offensive.
